Tough call. He would be in the discussion but I could argue for Thacker, Draud, Schloemer, Doellman, and maybe others.

I think he had 69 in one game without the 3 point line and most of shots would have been 3 pointers.

I have been watching 9th region boys' basketball for 40yrs and the two best players to play during that time frame is Beal and Schloemer...hands down.

Joe Harney is a very good friend of mine so take that bias into consideration, but I feel he is extremely overlooked in all of these discussions. Derek Smith wasn't that much younger than him and although Smith was very good I'd take Harney over him in a heartbeat. Smith may have been a lot better if he was just a basketball player, but I don't think he is top 10 of all time. When Joe signed at Western KY they were a very good basketball program for a small school.

 

Another person that gets overlooked from that time is Rob Padgette. His scoring numbers were outstanding . I don't think he's a top player 10 in NKY history, but he was very good and is rarely mentioned in discussions.

The rest is debatable. Troy McKinley's state games were incredible. Who's going to guard Jack Jennings? Draud could really shoot.

 

But Beal and Schloemer have to be at the top of the list.

 

I'm not sure Ricardo could dominate a game like these 5. Smith without Lorenzen isn't quite the same, but they were an incredible tandem. Doelman above Neltner on my list but its a gap back to them. Dinn was a fine player and a great guy.

 

I can't say too much prior to 78 - just a puppy back then.

Jesse Jett? From Scott? He isn't even the best player from Scott in the last 10 years.

 

Both Andy & Kevin Listerman had excellent careers. I'd guess that their career numbers compare favorably to some of the names being mentioned here, but there's no way that they're 10 top players in the history of NKY basketball.
