Great season.

Just back from the game...great atmosphere. The blame is on me....I ended the year 1-4 at GABP.

Everyone but the Pirates. The Astros were 40-33 after the All-Star Break and seem to have gotten rid of their dead weight.

The Brewers were 37-36 after the break and appear ready to make some moves to get better.

The Cubs and Cards can't help but get better.

The Reds were 41-30 after the break, but were 12-15 in September when the screws tightened. Just a couple of games better than the 'Stros and four better than the Cards the second half of the season. Again, best team in a weak division.

 

 

So every other team except the Reds can expect to get better, but the Reds are looking at Fools Gold. Got you. Makes perfect sense.

No. The fools gold comes from everyone thinking they are going to challenge for the division from here on out and as we all know, it doesnt happen that way in the NL Central. Both the Astros and Cardinals are a few years removed from the World Series and neither were a factor after Labor Day yet it still took the Reds until the last week of the season to clinch.

The Rangers are the only team I know of that didn't have to wait till the last week of the season to clinch. From here on out is an awfully long time. Nobody in their right mind thinks the Reds are going to challege for the NL Central for that long of a period, but I like the Reds chances just as much or more than anybody else in the NL Central for the next two or three years.

Reds fans need to brace themselves.

Just got back from the game. Great crowd tonight. Hopefully this season will draw more fans for next year.

 

This game is completely different if Brandon Phillips' liner in the first inning isn't run down by Victorino. But it just wasn't meant to be.

 

Hats off to the Phillies, especally Halladay and Hamels. You can't win if you can't score.

Here is the avatar I have for you Mr. Derringer if Votto doesn't get a hit next time. I think it's appropriate since Patrick Starr annoys the crap out of him and I figure this is what you'll look like after tonight's game.

Was at the game also. 5th row behind Reds' dugout. Seeing 40,000 people wave towels was really a sight. Hamels was dealing tonight and the few balls hit hard by the Reds were right at someone. Rolen looked clueless beyond clueless.

I'm in the minority but the Reds are playing with fool's gold. Career years from some vets in a weaker than usual division. The Phillies had their postseason rotation set in July. The Reds didnt know until a few days before the series began. They looked absolutely terrible in the postseason. Given Baker's history of going downhill after making the playoffs, I see the Reds as another version of the Brewers a couple of years ago. All of the young studs and arms = no postseason series wins.

 

You couldn't be anymore wrong. Who had career years? Gomes? He didn't do anything except in May. Rolen? He didn't do anything in the 2nd half. Votto, Bruce and Stubbs should all be expected to put up similiar production next season. As should everyone else. The difference between the Brewers and the Reds....Brewers had no pitching. Cincinnati has more pitching than it knows what to do with.

 

They'll pick up Arroyo's option

Then you have...Volquez, Cueto, Wood, Bailey, Maloney, Lecure that have all proven they can pitch in the bigs.

Not to mention Chapman if they want to have him in the rotation.

 

Will the Reds make the playoffs next year? Who knows. Will they fall off the radar? No chance.

Congrats to all Reds fans on a great year, have some pieces in place that should keep them in contention for a while. Not to mention the farm system has been completely rebuilt after ole leather pants raided the cupboard.
