The DBack's front office staff wouldn't let him pitch and I really can't blame them. It would have been no benefit to them. Brandon has been pitching in the instructional league and feels great. He still needs to get his velocity up though. As I've said all along he'll need to show that he can still pitch before anything will get done.

I have hopes that we'll see Brandon Webb in a Reds uniform next season. I also have hopes Walt will sign a LF'er. I wonder what the plans for Alonso are. Lots of question marks and excitement going into the hot stove season.

Agreed. I'm trying to figure out what they do with Leake. I'd say 4 spots are locked down and that doesn't include Wood, Leake, and Chapman. They might let Bronson walk. I hope not, but it could atually make sense.

Really? His old pitching coach is now in Cincinnati and he loves Brandon, and knows what Brandon is capable off when healthy. I sat next to Bob Miller ( Reds asst. GM) and Brandon's dad at a dinner in Portsmouth last winter. He told him the Reds had money saved up to sign Brandon after he becomes a free agent. Brandon will be looking to sign a 1 year deal loaded with incentives. If the Reds pitching coach and asst. GM are urging Walt and Bob to take a chance on Brandon if they feel he's healthy then why do you have such trouble seeing that happening even if the Reds are loaded with young arms?

If he's willing to take the "incentive-laden" contract then I can see it. I assumed he would be wanting high dollar/multi-year.

The better question might be why would Webb take the risk in Cincinnati. With all the young pitching they have, it would put a lot of pressure on him to get it done in spring training and his arm does not need that. If we could get the old Webb with an incentive built contract, I am all for it. His sinker is a great fit in Cincinnati. I think that is asking a bit much.

Brandon isn't concerned about the velocity, he knows that will come. He knows that he'll have to have a tryout for teams to watch him pitch. That will probably happen sometime in January.
