So winning by 7pts in a scrimmage where the Birds substitued a lot is getting their lunch handed to them. You are real lucky the kitty cats aren't playing the Birds this year. I think the score would be very similar to the flogging you took last week..

The same Trinity team that beat a Bowling Green team by 2....sounds like they are a ton better! Sounds like sour grapes to me. Trinity is a very good football team but they would not crush Highlands right now...it would be a pickem game. Just take your medicine that St. X is not on the level of Highlands and Trinity this year.

Great game by the Birds defense. Only St. X offensive score was when they started at Birds 5 after bad snap on punt at end of first half as referenced above. St. X also ran back opening kickoff to around Birds 30 and came away with no points (with a missed field goal after the offense did not advance it much past the return) and recovered an onside kick to start second half and were held to one first down on series and punt. I don't recall the Tigers meaningfully threatening to score (didn't advance deep in Birds territory) otherwise. ST. X special teams played well (including the very well disguised and executed onside kick mentioned above) although they did have a roughing the punter penalty in the second half that extended a long Highlands drive that ultimately ended in a TD I believe as well as the missed field goal (don't recall distance--perhaps 30-35 yards or so). In last three games combined (St. X, Dixie and Boone) Birds defense has given up a total of 2 touchdowns both of which came from drives that started inside Birds 20.

Crush? Really??? I don't think so. While T enjoyed a "win" in that particular scrimmage, it was just that...A scrimmage. Very vanilla defense/offense, trying to figure out their identity...Both teams. There would be no crushing by either team. BUT, would likely be a very entertaining game. I am guessing, just guessing, that this game will become a reality in the coming years.

A few comments...

 

1) What is X's JV record this year, and who is responsible for coaching the JV team? If X's JV team is as bad as you say then it speaks volumes about the X football program right now, given the size advantage X possesses over every KY school not named Trinity and the fact that X probably has the "highest-end" clientele of any high school in Kentucky (my apologies to the Manual students).

 

2) Oxnard, I am curious to know how you came up with the notion that Highlands fans are saying the Bluebirds are the best team in all of Kentucky this year. While I have heard a great deal of discussion about HHS being the best is Class 5A and in NKY, I can't say I recall many (or any) instances of HHS fans saying the 'Birds are better than Trinity this year. Perhaps during the summer but not during the regular season. Interestingly, the only sources I can come up with that do consider Highlands to be the best overall are Dave Cantrall's rankings and Litkenhous, both of which have HHS ranked first in KY. Perhaps the Cantrall and Lit ratings are secretly controlled by the Highlands BGP'ers!

 

3) As far as the T-HHS scrimmage goes, you are correct that T won the scrimmage. I will say that the real loser of that scrimmage was defense, as the winning team surrendered 42 points while the losing team gave up 49 (at least, I think that's what the final score was). The way I look at it is that while HHS and X both gave up about the same number of points to T, HHS just happened to score 42 more points than the Tigers managed to put up.

I thought the 3rd stringer played most of the game and got hurt? Maybe I am wrong..

I don't recall Birds fans saying anything about being the #1 team in Kentucky but now that you bring it up I think the game between HHS and Trinity would be a very good game. Ox, I guess you believe HHS wasn't the best team in State last year as well???

Something is telling me that the Birds may be adding St X to their varsity schedule if not next yr then the following. With the new realignments and the strength of the Highlands programs right now the Birds will be paying teams to play them. Actually, I give St X the credit for stepping up to the plate 1st amongst the Louisville powers in scheduling the Birds. First on the Frosh level, now the JV level. I can see St X on our schedule next yr but not Trinity. But hey, this yr was a start with T coming to Ft Thomas for a test, I would suspect Highlands will return the favor and head to T next yr for a preseason match but not a game. Go Birds 20n10
