3 or 4 weeks ago I thought Ryle was the class of 6A in NKY. It does appear that they're, if not drowning, then treading water.

 

Was Campbell County just a trap game for the Raiders looking ahead to last week?

Hempfel certainly was outplayed at the QB position last nigth, at least when talking about throwing the ball.

 

Hempel only had the opportunity to throw the ball 9 times. He completed 5 of them. Kremer threw the ball 59 times. Not to take anything at all away from Kremer - he played a whale of a game - but it's not really a fair comparison when one QB didn't get nearly the same chance to show his throwing ability.

 

Hempel had an phenominal game running the ball. Not sure what kind of time he runs these days, but he is quite a bit faster than last year and frequently is able to beat LB'ers to the outside for sizeable gains.

Doesn't the constant lack of throwing demonstrate a lack of confidence by the coaching staff in the Ryle passing game? I thought there was a switch with who was calling plays, oc, etc.

 

I thought Ryle would be the class of Northern Kentucky 6A this year, and they still might, but I have to admit I was disapppointed Friday night-not in their effort-but in their defense and their passing game.

 

On a positive note, I think that their scheduling Highlands twice is smart and the way to measure yourself against the best.

I said a few weeks back on another thread that, IMO, Ryle tends to actually regress late in the season and that they don't traditionaly improve a whole lot throughout the season and that the next Ryle Vs. HHS game would be a blow out IMO. Sounds to me as if history is coming to fruition again in Union.....Sad part is, that problem rest soley on the coaching staff. As to the bolded: perhaps, but not necessarily so. It may just be reflective of more confidence in and a predisposition with the running game. Warner is a Boone Co graduate don't forget. I've told several people that having a very, very good RB like Elliot has actually been a curse to Ryle in my opinion because it has retarded the development of a stronger passing game this year. No dis to Warner, but I think he sees a very high quality RB like Elliot and thinks why pass the ball? Then when he does infrequently pass the ball and it doesn't work as often as it should, it reinforces Warner's predisposition to just hand the ball off to Elliot and not waste a down caused by an incompletion. A strong passing game has to be developed by lots of attempts, not 9 or so per game; it has to be the focal point of every practice. If Elliot has to miss a couple of games, it may actually work out to the better for Ryle as it should force Warner to go to the pass at least 20 times per game. It might not work out for the best against SK this week, but in the long run of the remaining season it may work out extremely well for the Raiders. We'll see.

I didn't mean anything disparaging toward Hempel. I think he is really talented and ultimately won the game for them with a couple of his runs late in the game. I was more pointint out from a throwing and toughness prospective how good Kramer was friday night and as far as I know he doesn't have any D-1 offers on the table.

Not at all. There's no question that Ryle's special teams have played extremely well this entire season and have provided some important production during times the offense or defense slipped a bit. That's what good, well-rounded teams do - get production from all three phases of the game. But I don't think it's accurate to say special teams was the "only" reason they won these games. Both the offense and defense contributed in both wins.
