I attended the Smiles for Maria 5K race today, an event to raise money for the Marie Schaffstein scholarship fund. She was the NDA student killed in the tragic accident coming home from spring break. There were several CovCath, Highlands and NewCath football players who volunteered and Beechwood to work the race. All wearing their football jersey's working side by side for this great cause. A total class act. I'm so sorry for leaving out Beechwood in the thread title. Can a moderator please correct that?

Outstanding!

This is great to hear! Thanks for the heads up about this, CCiR!

Even better. Well done, gentlemen.

This is wonderful. We need to hear more positive things about what our young men are doing. It is certainly an honor to the young lady's memory.

Done. Thanks for posting the thread. Great story.

Good for these young men and the programs they represent.

Great stuff right there gentleman, you should be commended.

Wonderful to hear stories like this. Too bad we can not hear these types of things more often. Great job to all involved!

Great to hear. Thanks to all that supported this cause.:thumb:

This is what sports is all about, it is okay to compete hard on Friday night but in high school sports it is more important to realize that these young men learn life lessons everyday. Glad to see these young men step up for a great cause!!!!

A big thanks to a CovCath fan for asking Highlands if they wanted to get involved, which they were glad to do. Such a tragic loss of a young life. God bless her family and friends and help them to deal with the grief somehow. Maria is in a better place and if there is a silver lining, events like today make this world a better place too.

Thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the Schaffstein family. It is great to see the fraternity of northern kentucky players and fans working together for a common cause. :thumb:
