BTW, I don't know if it was just me or not, but Covcath's play-calling seemed a bit questionable last night.

I felt like they passed too much when the run was working with Gray and Slabaugh (sp?). Not sure if Wirth realizes it or not, but he's got two pretty good backs. Gray's run where he burt out of the pile for a 75 yard td was very impressive. Both backs are quick and strong.

I think the Colonels should run the "Wild Colonel" more often. 4th and 2 and Slabaugh takes it 16 yards for a td.

Covcath will be fine IMO. I still think they finish 2nd in the district ahead of Dixie.

wasn't @ the game but my crack sideline reporter told me the very same thing - tackling was poor on both sides.

To say the least.

Kelly was breaking tackles left and right last night and on Hightchew's td run, he broke atleast 6 tackles on his way to the end zone.

I love the schedule that CCH plays, but am disappointed they haven't figured things out 6 weeks into the season. The Colonels have a long way to go before that huge game with Highlands will be competitive again.

Congrats to the Breds.

I ran into a few guys that went to the game who are not fans of either team and they had one word to describe the two teams SLOW.

Anyone have Bir's numbers? How did the youngster play?

Yep!

He is a sophomore and as most understand, he is going to have good games, and poor games. He needs to get more consistent but that will come.

Congrats indeed to NCC and yes the Coaches for NCC showed a lot of class tonight by not allowing their players to try to score with around 15 seconds on the one or two yard line.

One thing to remember on those fumbles, CovCath did not force one of them if I remember correctly but even still, two of the fumbles resulted in TD's and a third fumble resulted in NCC a first down. Strange to have nine fumbles and not lose one of them..

My only question tonight was the punt that NCC kicked to CovCath #9 Brady Reese. Brady was waiting for the ball and before he got a chance to catch it #44 Hayes ran over him. Immediately the stripes threw a flag but then they returned the ball to the original line of scrimmage and then marked off the 15 yard penalty. I always thought a punt was a change of possession and the receiving player had a right to catch the ball (hallo) before he was hit, and the penalty would be marked off from the point of the receiving player receiving the ball. The call just seem strange to me

On film it appears it was just great timing on Hayes part. He hit the punt receiver just after he touched the ball. It would have been a great play in college, but I'm not sure about the high school rules. He might have to give him a yard to catch it.

Colonel play calling was mystifying.

Late in the fourth CCH had NCC with a fourth and about 15. Momentum was swinging hard to CCH. If they hold them, it gives them the ball in good field position with plenty of time. NCC had not shown much success with the long ball, but had shown a great deal of success with the screen pass. What does CovCath do? Blitz everyone. What does NCC do? Just what they've done all night long, they run the screen and pick up the first down. Why don't you play contain defense in a situation like that? That play swung the big MO back to NCC

The other issue I have is the way they used Connelly in this game. Bir was not having a good game going down field that was clear. Why didn't CovCath go to the hitch that was successful in the B'wood game? With the exception of third and long situations, NCC played #44 on Connelly and he gave up 6" and 8 yards on every play. It makes no sense that one of your supposed 'weapons' has one catch and only three or four balls thrown to him.

The staff has got to start helping Wirth.

High school has some vague wording about the returner having a chance to catch the ball so I think this great timed play was probably a penalty.

I didn't see any stats. I thought he threw pretty well. He did miss a wide open TD but CCH ended up scoring on that drive. Throws well on the run. Solid arm. Good future.
