Strangest call of the night was after CovCath ran about a 50 yard or so distance for a TD in the 1st quarter and the Stripe calls a foul for an unnecessary block. Now the stripe said it was a legal block, but said that the block was unnecessary. Honestly, I have never heard of a unnecessary block while the play was still live!

The Connelly TD catch that tied the game at 21 was the play of the game for me. Beechwood had stoned CCH on 1st and 2nd down. On 3rd down Connelly makes a great catch on the sideline by the goal line pylon, diving and keeping his feet in bounds. That would have been a big decision if he doesn;t make that catch - kick the field goal or go for it on 4th down? What would you do? What do you think Wirth would have done? I would kick the field goal at that point in the game.

Fun game to watch and it was a tail of two halves.

 

CovCath "D' came up huge in the second half and only allowed Beechwood to garner 72 yards of total offense 41 rushing 31 passing.

Talkers 31 yard FG which was good, would have been good from 50 yards out easily.

No clue about the rule but there were some blocks behind the play that were unnecessary and did not aid that play at all.

As many times as I have written that name be it for Baseball or Football you would think I woudn't make a typo! Oh well, started my day at 5am and the older I get, the more sleep I need.

#44 for Beechwood is sophomore Max Nussbaum. He played a great game. As TOG said, defensive player of the game. Several excellent catches of off target passes. He had a a nice punt or two and he also ran the fake punt for a first down that led to Beechwood's first TD. That fake punt was a huge play early in the game and seemed to shift momentum to the Tigers.

One more thing about the game. It was nice seeing the Beechwood Marching Tigers put on their show at half time. They did a great job. It is always nice seeing a top notch marching band at half time of a football game.

 

The crowd. The band at half time. Beautiful weather. It was a great atmosphere and a great crowd. High school football at its best.

Actually that was Alex Cosby who made the strip. He secured the tackle, ripped the ball out and recovered. He also caused a Vocke fumble and had a 1st half pick.

 

Great game by Cosby he and the other corner came up HUGE in the 2nd half!

I believe that was Alex Cosby with the strip. Alex also had an interception to kill a drive in the first quarter and was involved in another fumble during the game.

I am surprised that Covcath struggled with the Tigers the way they did.

 

Not taking anything away from B'wood, but when you're a top 10 5A program playing a top 5 1A program, you aren't supposed to struggle like this. A W is a W though.

 

Congrats Colonels and good luck to B'wood rest of the season.
