September 14, 201016 yr Cordero is the closer. He has been all season, and he will be for the rest of the year. He had converted his last 9 in a row and like 16 or 17 out of 18 until Friday night. This one stings, but we still took 2 out of 3 from the Pirates. Cordero had been pitching well up until the road trip. Dusty did not get him any work in Colorado after using him once in St Louis. Imo closers need work even if there are no save opportunities. Maybe Dusty had a reason but he had a chance to use him in Colorado with the day off looming last Thursday and didn't do it. Last Friday was the first day he worked in 6 days and you saw the results. I know the bottom line is that he needs to throw strikes and stop walking batters. I believe that he has fallen in love with the "away" pitches and refuses to throw inside anymore. He is allowing the batters to look away and take the ball that way. I think he needs to start busting batters more inside and challenging them with heat. He is throwing the ball 96, 97 regularly but keeps nibbling around the plate. If this team is going to go deep in the playoffs they need him to be effective because Dusty will stay with him to the end.

September 14, 201016 yr Why can we not switch the roles of Aroldis and Cordero? Am I missing something? You can't bring Chapman in in close games with speedy runners on base because he has no chance of holding them on. With his long stride they are running like crazy on him.
