Track the Reds (2nd Half, Week #10)

Featured Replies

This is all fine and dandy, and is probably the Dusty company line. But the bottom line is that CoCo doesn't pass the eyeball test -- which is more important than the numbers at this point, frankly -- and his high-wire act of leadoff walks won't float when it matters most.

Trust me, Coco drives me nuts. Nothing worse than a pitcher out of the pen who can't throw strikes. I'd love to see the % of innings he's started out walking the hitter & how often that run has scored.

Fay thinks the Reds didn't DFA Harang because they want to pay his buyout of $2MM.

I'd give Harang one, maybe two, shots at long relief. Realistically, the Reds would likely be a candidate for Aaron Harang & Brandon Webb next year for something as a low risk, high reward free agent move. What are the chances Harang retires? Or doesn't make a roster? Has Webb returned to throwing? Any chance he'll take the hill in GABP? I'm buyin what BGP's Ashland Insiders are selling about Webb's interest in the Reds for next season. I'd like to see him bounce back this season. If healthy, he could be great for this pitching staff.

You can't bring Chapman in in close games with speedy runners on base because he has no chance of holding them on. With his long stride they are running like crazy on him.

I don't have a problem with Chapman going after the hitter. When you have the potential to strike everyone out, you simply focus on throwing strikes. If they start stealing 3rd, it's a much bigger problem.

Do you think he deserves a roster spot for the playoffs? Imo he hasn't helped this team and probably won't be able to with his side the way it is.

Yes, I'd keep Edmonds on the playoff roster & platoon him & Gomes.

The troble is that I don't think they are telling us how healthy he is. Two weeks ago they said he was probably done for the season and the next thing we know they activate him????

If the Reds happen to make the World Series, I wouldn't mind Edmonds in LF & Gomes at DH, or Edmonds at DH.

It will be interesting to see who plays SS in a playoff series. Cabrera is the veteran, but I feel confident with Janish. He's better defensively & has played well in Orlando's absence. In 175 AB's, .274 Avg & .354 OBP, 5 HR.

For comparison: Orlando Cabrera 437 AB, .263 AVG, .305 OBP, 3 HR.

If Reds go 11-7 (93-69) ....Cards must go 19-1 to tie

Brandon had his best bullpen session of the year on Saturday. He said it was the best he has felt all year. He is still expecting to pitch sometime soon. I think Harang will end up in San Diego next year. It's the perfect place for him to pitch, and that is where he is from.

Coco stats...

Year W L W-L% ERA G GS GF CG SHO SV IP H R ER HR BB IBB SO HBP BK WP BF ERA+ WHIP H/9 HR/9 BB/9 SO/9 SO/BB

2010 6 5 .545 4.04 67 0 57 0 0 35 64.2 61 29 29 5 36 1 53 1 0 2 285 103 1.500 8.5 0.7 5.0 7.4 1.47

Walk off HR celebrations are dumb but I absolutely love them.

Ironic that Harang's career will likely end in San Diego. Many of us would argue it already did.

Not "Track the Reds" material, but interesting nonetheless:

The Mariners fired pro scouting director Carmen Fusco, according to KING 5 Sports. Ed Price of AOL FanHouse confirms the report (on Twitter) and suggests it's a warning shot to GM Jack Zduriencik. The Mariners front office is under scrutiny after trading for Josh Lueke.

Bray went two solid innings tonight. You don't hear much about that. I can only imagine the # of posts if he gave up a run.

Was it because they didn't know of his legal issues in the past?

So do you guys still think the Reds have this wrapped up? If so those of you that do are really going to be shocked come the 1st of October. As I've said all along, and I stand by it, the Reds are going to choke. Now I know most of you will laugh, ridicule and even ignore my comments, but I honestly see it happening. The Reds offense is dead and their bullpen has blown leads in 3 straight games. The Reds will split with Arizona at best and will then go 3-6 at best on their last roadtrip of the year. The Cards will overtake the Reds. I am 100% confident of that. Have at it my fellow posters.

Okay. Had to jump offlline early yesterday and had a busy evening. So, I think they'll go 3-2 the rest of this week and 3-3 next week, finish the season 4-3 which means the Cards would nearly have to win out.
