Is 2010 the year of the Briar Jumpers?

Featured Replies

Last year Coach Lucas brought a solid team to WKU. After the convincing win over the Admirals last night is 2010 the year of the Briar Jumpers? Will Somerset take home the 3A title?

Obviously, I'm for Belfry in 3A, but beyond that, I would like to see Somerset bring one home.

Danville had 5 or 6 turnovers, that may or may not have been due to the Jumpers. Not many teams are going to be in a game when they turn it over that many times. I think PT's speed last year hurt them in the title game I watched and PT and Central are both supersonic again this year. I am still leaning toward one of these two to win it all. Having watch PT the past 2 weeks I am very impressed but they tend to not always show up.

All of the Ads turnovers except one came after crushing hits by the Briar Jumper defense. Somerset's retooled offensive line is much quicker this season than last and they held their own against Danville's speed. There is a long way to go and anything could happen, Somerset has looked very good so far--especially their defense. Right now the only game that matters for Somerset is Estill County next week.

Long way to go to be thinking that this going to be thier year, however D is playing very very well. As far as speed hurting the jumpers last year it was speed on the D that hurt them. Somerset D played well enough to win last year at WKU, O just wasn't on it's game that day. Hopefully we'll get another chance to get rid of the Bridesmaid veil that giant monkey on our back is wearing. As AVG Joe said, most important game right now is the Estill Co. Engineers next Friday night at the Briar Patch.

So true. Somerset has been five times and lost every time - 1978, 1981, 1983, 1988, and 2009. You have to think they'll eventually get over that hump. This might be their year.

What's more they had at least two teams I thought were capable but did not make the final.

1982 They went 10-1 but their only loss was a 1 pt set back at Boyle that cost them the district. The beat Corbin that year by a couple of TD's and were the best club I saw all season.

1984 They had Fletcher and Massey and a good team that was unbeaten until they were upset in the Regional or Semi-Finals if I recall.

Ah....1982. A great season!! Makes me cry every time I think about it. :(
