Attended and watched the NCC vs Dixie game at Nippert!

 

Game was over, and the only thing that could have happened or gone wrong at that point to Dixie, was for Pike to take a hit to his knee get hurt. Pike gets hurt and the Dixie season is over!

 

Dixie had taken Pike out after they put up 41 and DeMatteo was in. Next thing I know, Pike is in on defense. Conner scored, and I couldn't believe Pike was back in at QB. DeMatteo, who starts as a DB, did get a right shoulder stinger early in the game. I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it because DeMatteo was only at QB for one series.

Understand, I am not trying to bad mouth the young man at all but it just doesn't make sense to get him hurt. The Conner fans were rather upset seeing Pike still in the game and running the ball at the end and were screaming some things to their kids on "D" that quite frankly I would hope the players would not listen to.

Why would Conner be upset that Pike is still in the game at the end of the 4th qtr?

Not a Conner fan as most understand but did sit on that side of the field to watch a HS game tonight. The Conner fans were most upset with the last play of the game and Pike trying to score! Me? Don't care just don't want the young man to get hurt at the end of a blow out win trying to score a meaningless TD!

Conner had just scored rather quickly to pull within 15, so in my book this game was not over. I mean twice Conner almost recovered an on-side kick. Why Pike did not take a knee with about 35-40 seconds left in the game kind of concerned me. I don't see Spritz telling Pike to score a TD at that point.

First, thank you for not thinking I am trying to bad mouth Pike and I will agree on taking the knee, it just puzzled the heck out of me, those last couple of plays at the end!

After watching Ryle and NCC, both are better than SK.

Just wondering, but does Dixie and Conner have some past history against each other?

 

Have no idea why but on the last Conner offensive series with the score being 41-19 with less than four minutes in the game Pike is in the game playing "D"?

 

Then after Conner scores to make it 41-26 with less than 2:43 in the game, Pike is the QB and is running the ball and in fact with less than 15 seconds left in the game and Dixie 4 yards out from the goal line and scoring, Pike instead of taking a knee to end the game, tries to score a TD by running the ball in but is stopped. Just seemed strange to me!

 

Running the ball up the middle with 15 seconds left up 15 seems a bit excessive. Taking a knee was the classy thing to do. At the end of games with a lead the QB routinely takes a knee. Does Spritzsky have a reputation for not doing that??

I believe this is his 16th season.

No "history" that I'm aware of. Spritzky and Stellman seemed to be friends.

My take was this. Pike got pulled, and Smith from Conner stayed in the game and Conner was running their hurry up, no huddle offense. I believe that Spritzky was expecting Trosper to pull Smith as well. When that did not happen, Pike was inserted back into the ball game. I could be wrong, but that is the way I saw it. Btw, Pike is a load to bring down when he is running the ball. Just needs to take better care of the football when rushing the ball. Good game by Dixie tonight. Way to many penalties for Conner to compete in this ballgame.
