I wasn't invited to any meeting.

You will have to take that up with the event organizer.

All kidding aside, what is your opinion on the question at hand?

If you are talking about in terms of most important win up to this point, I would say yes without question. They beat a down Beechwood team by 30 last year, and beat NCC and Dixie, but this was win # 7 of his tenure. Not many to choose from.

If you are talking in terms of most important win in the "big picture", this may be one looked back on down the road if CCH takes it back to a top-level state contender. LexCath is down, but still a relevant opponent and for CCH respond the way they did on the road not only shows resolve from this group of kids, but obviously Coach Wirth and his staff did a great job coaching the week of.

I think that all wins for CCH are big at this point. They have had a tough stretch in the past couple of years compared to their usual standards. With every win its a step forward to get back to where they were with Rodenburg and Ray.

Coach Ray built the program and deserves a lot of credit but Rodenburg inherited a lot of talent and couldn't help but win. Coach Brossart struggled but he lacked talent and the talent level isn't much better now. My point is the natives were getting restless and this win was huge.

Rome wasnt built in a day. It was in shambles from what I understand.

Yes it was a important victory for the kids and not for the coaches or the fans. It proved that Bir and some of the young kids can bounce back and learn from their mistakes. It is a work in progress but if you had attended the game in Lexington on Saturday night, you would have been simply amazed at the progress the kids made in one week.

Now surely this question will come up, and that question would be, would Ryle beat CovCath again by a 61-7 score? My answer is that I don't think yet that CovCath could beat Ryle (maybe later in the season) but I don't think the score would be as bad as the first match up!

BTW the Park Hills Mafia thing is getting a tad old.

There have been "some" natives getting restless but it's nothing that amounts to anything.

To answer your question and with this being his 7th win I'd say you are correct.

From some folks I've talked to close to the program, the coaching job at CCH mirrors Norman Dale's job.

Even when Coach Ray was winning 5 state titles some weren't happy. It goes with the territory. Even Dale catches flack from some. It happens and it's usually much ado about nothing.

Exactly what I was going to say.

Also, Rodenburg doesn't deserve to be included in with Lynn Ray. Rodenburg was a cherry-picker who had one good year. ;-)

You certainly can't please everyone all the time, heck ever some of the time but the vast majority and I do mean vast majority believe in Coach Wirth.

Exactly what I was going to say.

I agree that it is hard to match Coach Ray's contribution to the program. But, Rodenberg was pretty darn solid. In 2006 the Colonels beat the Birds twice in 15 days in route to the championship. In 2005 the Colonels had Highlands beat in Park Hills during the regular season but had the game snatched from them by a Division I caliber 4th quarter deep catch and TD run by Ben Guidugli.

If the Colonels keep rolling over the next couple of games, everyone may well look to the Lex. Cath. game as the turning point.

LOL That didn't take too long.

I will tell you that as an outsider to the program:sssh:, I would say at this point, any win is a big win. Like others implied, take what you can.

I like others was shocked at the score of the LexCath game. I mean, did anybody really think they would win like that. Actually some probably did.

I made it to the 2nd half of the Ryle game after watching my team play earlier that evening. Watching that game, I thought it was going to be a looong year for the Colonels. I talked with "CovCath" people, aka "PHM" after the game and was told that the outlook was extremely positive at the tailgate party. He was shocked as well of the Ryle game. So needless to say, there may have been some concerns early, but looks like all is back in order for this week.

So as an outsider, I would say the win over LexCath may lead to the "win" the colonels have been looking for. We will see.
