August 31, 201016 yr I'm going to file my appeal Wednesday. I wanted to file it today when the bill came, but I learned our insurance company closes their phone bill lines at 4pm daily. And it will be Wednesday until I'm done working before 4 to be able to have a long drawn out conversation with them. I'm not above threatening lawsuits though, hopefully it won't come to that. This has just been a giant headache today. I was also told the hospital might cut some of the bill off if we pay cash up front. That would wipe out our savings but might be worth it to save a few hundred bucks. My son had to have n MRI last yer while he was away at college. Because it was not done at an approved hospital we were charged five thousand dollars. If it had been done locally, the hospital had a negotiated price with our insurance company that was a fraction of the cost. Hubby called the hospital and negotiated a much lower price for paying cash up front. Most hospitals would rather not have to keep chasing after their money. Good luck! August 31, 201016 yr Insurance companies are glorified scam artists. They do everything in their power not to pay. Make you jump through a million hoops every time. I hate them.
August 31, 201016 yr Find the address and copy the state insurance commissioner on all correspondence to your insurance company. And by all means push them!
August 31, 201016 yr I think this thread reinforces the old adage that if you got everyone on BGP to throw their problems into the middle of a circle, you would probably want yours back. I believe whoever has insurance has had an issue with them at some point in their lifetime. Seems we are all at their mercy. Hang in there HT, everything always works out at the end of the day.
August 31, 201016 yr You know when you get your car fixed-they give you an estimate. When you order something at Wendy's-you know what it is going to cost. With medical stuff-it's like nobody has any idea how much stuff costs until way too late.

September 1, 201016 yr All I know is I am shelling out like $450 a month and I have yet to come close to using that much in Insurance. Nice to have it but afraid to ever use it.
