I realize Beck has few fans on this board but if any of you can find legitimate problems with his central themes, (all simply repeating the teaching of other great leaders.) I submit that your problem is not with Beck himself: Equal justice under the law Judge a man by the content of his character not the color of his skin Now is the time to turn to God Now is the time to ask and beg for His forgiveness Now is the time to ask for His help We each need a personal relationship with God. We must know God exists We must learn to trust God when times are bad In so doing, we may have the confidence that things will get better I can't reconcile those "central themes" with Glen Beck. There is not much -- if anything -- in what Glen Beck says on his radio show or on cable that suggests to me that he is a credible leader on these themes. And to think that Beck is promoting something called a "Black Robe Regiment" that people should listen to and take guidance from makes me throw up a little in my mouth.
August 30, 201016 yr The problem isn't with the message, it is the messenger. I have seen the news reports on the rally and most of the reports of the rally itself have been favorable. I would agree with that. Now if he carries that message onto his radio and TV shows maybe I'll pay a little attention to what he has to say. I have seen his show on Fox a few times. I bought a ticket to one of his theatre broadcasts once. He is a hate spewing shock jock. The problem with shocking people for a living is that you have to keep escalating or they will stop being shocked. He has escalated to the point that I no longer wish to hear from him. All things can be forgiven, but repentance is required. I'll think about listening to him and his message when I see some sign of his repentance. The truth is the truth, regardless of the corroded pipe it may flow through... just as sewage is sewage even if transported via 24k golden pipes. I understand your misgivings toward Beck, I have them toward others on your side of the aisle. IMO, Beck hit a homerun with this event, regardless of how any of us may feel about how he carries out his day job.

But he then goes on to de-legitimize the President's faith by saying it is not recognized by most Christians because it is a liberation theology. Heck, that was Jesus message "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Pure liberation theology.

If you knew that your minister was having an affair with your wife, would you listen to him give a sermon on marital fidelity? Beck is one corroded pipe. When a pipe is corroded, replace it. Then whatever it is carrying will get to its destination.

People can criticize all they want, it really won't matter what all these other critiques of him think. The crowd that showed up was a very small percentage of his supporters. His message is getting across and affecting people all over in a positive way. It amazes me that people who never listen to him and consider themselves tolerant and open minded, are the first to criticize on his speech and message. It shows extreme narrowness in how one thinks.

I consider this particularly interesting as many Christians don't consider Mormons to be true Christians. Hmmm.

Certainly some are moreso than others. What does it say about the state of our spiritual leaders that a retired alcoholic, new Mormon shock jock is delivering the words with a passion and a following any one of the ministers should have. Something is afoot, and we are all a part of it whether we want to be or not. If the result is an awakening that draws America back to the core values that made us great and to a closer walk with God for each of us... I'm all about it. :thumb:

Beck is a con man - pure and simple. I applaud him for overcoming an addiction. I'm sure that's quite difficult. However, he's full of crap half the time and often tells "un-truths." The beauty is that you and others who dig what he says (and there are obviously many) get many chances to listen to him , buy gold, and buy his books. It's a beautiful world.

I scan the spectrum. I'll watch O'Reilly/KO/Anderson/Schultz/Shep. What I do is see what stories interest me and then see if the host shot me straight by looking up info on the subject. I respect those with a high level of intelligence vs blowhards. However, even those with a high level of intelligence can sometimes let their politcs cloud their judgement. IMO Beck plays to the conspiracy theorists and plays to the fears. He's a con man. I also scan blogs. I'll look at Drudge/Politco/HuffPost/Salon/Daily Caller/Crooksandliars. Those sites usually have the talking points from both sides. My thought has always been to find the truth and then form decisions vs pick a "side" and then find those talkers that fit my side.
