Are the points allowed a concern for Trinity or Highlands?

Featured Replies

42 and 49 points are a lot. I know these are two of the best programs in KY but giving up all those points has to be a concern, right? For Trinity, X has to be licking their chops. For Highlands the outlook isn't as bad because the new 5A has been so weak. But either way this is a concern, right?

Simply put...no.

Neither will face another offense as good as the other the rest of the season.

Nope.....

I did not attend the scrimmage but if you give up 42 and 49 points then your defense is definately a concern.

Scrimmage birds aren't GameBirds.

The Birds don't wear their spurs until the regular seasons starts, The guy sharpening the spurs said he will have them sharpened and ready to go by next Thursday ! :D

Make sure they're extra pointy!

Interesting that I heard the defense got out of practice quite a bit earlier than the offense yesterday.

There is no way on Earth that either Coach Beatty or Coach Mueller are happy at all giving up that many points. Don't for a minute tell me that somehow Highlands give less effort in a scrimmage. Highlands never gives less effort.

Hey Walter, you really think Highlands is better than X this year?

Trinity kept Highlands running game pretty much in check outside of the fourth down 65 yard td run. They couldn't contain the long ball. It became the Birds go to play. Rock safetys looked lost. As a matter of fact, on the long td run, a new safety came in to replace and injured one. He looked very confused and when the ball was snapped both safetys charged the line creating the hole and no one was back. To Highlands credit, the wr's did a great job finding those long passes and getting in position to make the catch. The Rock safetys never could find the ball and were constantly out of position. I don't believe Trinity will see too many qb's that can throw 50 yards on the run. Once the safetys get it right, the Trinity defense will be very tough.

Highlands Scoring:

1Q - Compton 4yd Run (Towles 2pt)

1Q - Towles to Gold 81yd Pass (missed PAT)

2Q - Compton 71yd Run (Weinel)

2Q - Towles to Sheehan 36yd Pass (Weinel)

3Q - Towles 13yd Run (Weinel)

4Q - Compton 3yd Run (Weinel)

Just watched the tape. The Highlands running game was great! Four of the six Highlands TDs were runs. I don't consider that as being kept in check. After being at the game and also watching the film, I have to disagree that the Trinity safetys or DBs looked lost. Trinity has a great set of DBs and safetys. The bottom line is the Highlands receivers have some class speed and the entire Highlands WR team is just pretty darn good. They blew by the DBs, the DBs weren't out of position. On the 80 yarder to Gold he ran past the DB, caught the ball, then accelerated 30 more yards to the end zone. Sheehan was double covered on the 36 yard TD pass to the end zone, but he was a couple of steps ahead of both of the DB and safety and he found the seam between the defenders. Another play early in the 3rd quarter, Sheehan was 10 yards ahead of the DB and Towles threw the ball over 60 yards in the air and Sheehan had to wait on it or that was a TD. Taking nothing away from my man Towles, he had to scramble on the play and 60 yards in the air is awesome, just making a point that Sheehan was 10 yards ahead of the DB. Gall ran a long 30 or 40 yarder to the sideline, he beat the DB and caught the pass even though he double teamed and was being face guarded (penalty flag thrown) by the DB that he had two or three steps on. Early in the game there was a long 50 yard pass to the end zone and Sheehan had the DB by several steps and the DB tackled him for pass interference in the end zone. Give credit where credit is due. The Highlands offense scored 42 points on a very very good Trinity team! Top QB + Top WRs = TDs.

Dont forget the line which gave Towles ample time most of the night.
