August 12, 201016 yr What tunes still make you tear up a bit when you hear them ? Maybe it's the song itself; maybe the memories it stirs up. I'll start: 1. "Shannon" --- Henry Gross 2. "Alone Again, Naturally"--- Gilbert O'Sullivan 3. "I Won't Hold You Back" --- Toto
August 12, 201016 yr Author Wasn't that song about his dog? Close... Written about the passing of Beach Boy Carl Wilson's Irish Setter named "Shannon." Great old tune.
August 12, 201016 yr Close... Written about the passing of Beach Boy Carl Wilson's Irish Setter named "Shannon." Great old tune. I knew it was something similar. I haven't heard that song in years, but you're right, it is a good one. Although it doesn't make me cry!
August 12, 201016 yr Author Another day is at end Mama says she's tired again No one can ever begin to tell her I hardly know what to say But maybe it's better that way If papa were here I'm sure he'd tell her Shannon is gone I hope she's drifting out to sea She always loved to swim away Maybe she'll find an island with a shady tree Like the one in our backyard Mama tries hard to pretend Things will get better again Somehow she keeps it all inside her But finally the tears fill our eyes And I know that somewhere tonight She knows how much we really miss her Shannon is gone I hope she's drifting out to sea She always loved to swim away Maybe she'll find an island with a shady tree Just like the one in our backyard "Shannon" (Henry Gross--- 1976)
August 13, 201016 yr Author " Green,Green Grass of Home"--- Tom Jones One of my all-time favorites of any genre.
August 13, 201016 yr While it is not a type of song a person would think of but the one that always gets me and I get on youtube and watch almost everyday is the Marine Corps Hymn. Especially in November it really gets to me. I was discharged on the 7th and the Corps birthday is the 10th.
August 13, 201016 yr Click to listen --->> Butterfly Kisses If you are a Father like me, of a beautiful Daughter and if you are like me, having her getting married one day next year, you totally understand why this song makes me cry. There's two things I know for sure: She was sent here from heaven and she's daddy's little girl. As I drop to my knees by her bed at night She talks to Jesus and I close my eyes and I thank god for all the joy in my life Oh, but most of all For butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer; sticking little white flowers all up in her hair; "Walk beside the pony, Daddy, it's my first ride." "I know the cake looks funny, Daddy, but I sure tried." In all that I've done wrong I know I must have done something right to deserve a hug every morning and butterfly kisses at night. Sweet 16 today She's looking like her mama a little more everyday One part woman, the other part girl. To perfume and make-up from ribbons and curls Trying her wings out in a great big world. But I remember Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer; sticking little white flowers all up in her hair. "You know how much I love you, Daddy, But if you don't mind I'm only gonna kiss you on the cheek this time." With all that I've done wrong I must have done something right to deserve her love every morning and butterfly kisses at night. All the precious time Like the wind, the years go by. Precious butterfly. Spread your wings and fly. She'll change her name today. She'll make a promise and I'll give her away. Standing in the bride-room just staring at her. She asked me what I'm thinking and I said "I'm not sure-I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl." She leaned over...gave me butterfly kisses with her mama there, Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair "Walk my down the aisle, Daddy-it's just about time." "Does my wedding gown look pretty, Daddy? Daddy, don't cry!" Oh, with all that I've done wrong I must have done something right. To deserve your love every morning and butterfly kisses-I couldn't ask God for more, man this is what love is. I know I gotta let her go, but I'll always remember every hug in the morning and butterfly kisses.
August 13, 201016 yr Tears In Heaven Eric Clapton I always had a problem with this song. An artist making a hit song about the death of his child, doesnt seem right. Should be a private matter IMO. For me, "Skin" by Rascal Flatts, always makes me cry. Next best is "There Goes My Life", by Kenny Chesney.
August 13, 201016 yr Arlington By Trace Adkins always get me a little choked up. I agree, that is a very good one. Along the same lines, American Soldier by Toby Keith. Reminds me of a good friend, thankfully he served four years and made it back home alive.
