Is anyone surprised Pike is playing both ways? After all, we are talking about Dixie's coaching staff. You know what every team is going to do, they are going to really get after Pike on D. At the least it will hurt his offensive performance and at worst the grind could be too much to make it through the entire season. Pike is a great talent but he has the wrong handlers.

I can see him being more replaceable on Offense than Defense.

I think if Pike is going to play QB for Dixie then his handlers should let him play one way. If he is going to play any other position on offense then have at it and put Pike on the field every play.

I am not doubting him I am just saying he is very important to their D . (I trust Urban Meyer and Nick Sabin) I believe he has tons of talent, and Dixie needs him on both sides of the ball

I would not agree with the bolded. Pike actually IS the offense. He looked good throwing on the run, which he will be doing quite a bit if his O-Line does not improve. He was also used to get the tough couple of yards needed for first downs and goal-line pushes. I only heard him once scream at Brossart because of slow play signaling, which in my opinion was warranted.

Hempel had eleven carries for 141 yards and a touchdown on the ground and was 66% with a td in the air.

Those are quality numbers.

I am not doubting Pike at all, I think he is a fantastic football player. My beef is with the coaching staff if they play him at QB and then expect him to bang on defense the whole game. Again, I am not doubting Pike at all.

Is there some reason Hempel was running the ball so much? I would think his passing skills would be the key to his future college career. Any idea how many passes he threw in this one?
