Volquez pitching very poorly so far...38 pitches, 3 BBs, and a run and only 1 out in the 2nd...

And now he gives up a bases loaded single to the pitcher...2-0, bases still loaded....Gotta think someone is getting up and ready right now...

Through 2 innings, 53 pitches, 1 hit, 3 runs, 4 walks, and 3 strikeouts....Ugly!

5-0 Nationals, single by Zimmerman and HR by Dunn to lead off the 3rd.....Volquez is just flat out god-awful today.

Gotta love the stat line for Volquez today: 2.1 IP, 5 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, 4 K....

He had trouble finding the plate. Dreads were in his eyes.

Now that there has finally been a break in the rain, for at least a few hours, I get out to mow the lawn. I come back in and see the score, goodness gracious, barring something special in the late innings today, this upcoming road trip takes on even bigger importance.

Agreed. It's not a good sign at all when you go 4-3 on a homestand against the Rockies and the lowly Nationals.

Yeah, we will see what this team is made of. They have dealt with adversity all year and always bounced back, there have been people saying "okay, this is the loss that will start the downward slide...." and they have always bounced back.

You would think their starting pitching is strong enough to avoid any long losing streaks, but they are only 3 games up in the wild card. While the Mets, Phillies are having their own struggles, we know they are going to add pieces in the next 10 days. I wouldn't rely on that wild card safety net if they fall 3 and 4 games behind the Cardinals.

Make that 4 BBs already...

Lots of pitchers struggle with their control, more than their velocity when returning from Tommy John surgery. He probably won't be as good as he was in his first start but he probably won't be as bad as he was today most games. It'll probably be next spring before he's completely back to normal.

Wonder who we are going to get the rest of the season?

Saturday's Volquez or Today's Volquez?
