My take on todays 7 on 7. HHS played the defense that they will play when there are 11 opponents on the field. They stayed in the coverage and covered the area that they are supposed to when there will be 11 guys. Holmes elected to play a 7 on 7 defense, where they guarded the 4 HHS receivers where ever they went with all 7 guys chasing after them. The weak side and middle of the field were open on every play, a swing play to a back would be TD every time. In a real game, opponents will score lots of points. Not being critical of Holmes, this is how they elect to play 7 on 7, there are no rules saying one can't do this. Just stating that HHS just needs to move on and consider this a nice day of football.

Also most teams that play a 3-5 defense are not playing 7on 7 unless they simulate a blitz every play. They are playing 8 on 7.

You should learn how to read a post. He saying teams playing a 3-5 defense aren't playing 7 on 7 unless they blitz. They are playing 8 on 7

 

He's not saying they dont participate, he is just saying its an unfair advantage.

Watched CovCath vs. Lakota West.

CovCath defense played very well. The Ritter kid is going to be a good one, he is fast and has good size.

I do not believe the 1st team give up a score with a couple picks.

Bir play ok, made some very good throws for TD's and the wide-out made some good catch with defenders on them.

Reese played at very well at a wide-out.

Bir still made mistakes, locked on to some of his receivers and forced a couple of throws.

All in all I think he played well.

If the front 4 plays as well as the other 7, CovCath will not need to score 30 points a game to win.

When I was leaving they were playing Campbell with a lot of 2nd and 3rd teamers playing.

I did ask about the Moeller game and was told CovCath played very well.

 

From what I was total at the 7/7 against Lakota West, against Moeller, CovCath "D" had 6 ints with Ritter getting two of the six and the CovCath "O" did quite well.

 

I also was told that as big as Lakota West was (and they were huge) Moeller was even bigger!

 

Was also told that the CovCath Frosh team is going to be something very, very special this season!

Which means the rivalry is back. HHS freshman class will have many whispering when are these boys going to graduate. I would think the HHS/Cov Cath freshman matchup will be a can't miss game this year...

I would say this HHS frosh team will be the most talented since the Austin Collinsworth and Brandon Roller class..

Gonna have to catch me some Baby Birds games.

Although CovCath hasn't beaten the Highlands frosh team recently, the last 4 games have been extremely close. I may not have the exact scores but I believe it something like the following:

Class of 2011 (Current Seniors) Highlands 7 CovCath 6 in OT

Class of 2012 (Current Juniors) Highlands 28 CovCath 21 Highlands scored winning Td with less than 3 minutes in the game.

Class of 2013 (Current Sophomores) Game 1 Highlands 15 Covcath 8 in OT

Championship Highlands 14 Covcath 7

Paul is an excellent example of hard work paying off. Due to lack of depth (and his skill) he played a lot of varsity as a sophomore when he weighed about 135. I'm guessing he's now in the 170 to 175 range. He has a nice speed/size combo plus the requisite desire to decapitate someone.

However, they are not dropping eight. They either have to send one of their linebackers or their bandit or rover every play. That is what doubledeuce was talking about.

Yes its his creation and he does a good job covering a ton of events. I know he travels to a ton of AAU Basketball events in OH/KY/IN and has some really nice photos to go with his blog.
