Red's needs for the second half of the season.

Gomes has some value and has a good deal from an owners standpoint. I can see Walt moving him...

That would be a terrible move

My question is about the 3 OF's.

What are Gomes/Stubbs/Bruce's final numbers? Rolen/Phillips/Votto are the life lines, no moves will be made there.

Don't be surprised to see Heisey optioned back to Louisville and Matthews called up after the break. Maybe a change of scenery can revive his career and give this team a second half lift.

Heisey's hitting .286 with 5 HR's in 70 AB's they better not make that switch.

He does? He drew no interest in the offseason other than from the Reds, did he?

Bad defense and a .683 OPS on the road don't give him much value on the trade market.

Surely Jonny Gomes has some value. This season (83 games - 278 AB's), he's hit .277 with 11 HR & 60 RBI. His OBP% is only .330, but his clutch hitting more than compensates for that. He also has 60 RBI.

He has about the same number of at bats this season as he got all of last year. Last year, in 281 at bats (91 games), he hit .267 with 20 HR & 51 RBI.

He has some value, but he has a lot more value to Cincinnati than he does anywhere else.

How many guys out there make 2 million with 10 homers and 60 RBI?

What the Reds need in the second half is a repeat of the first half. That equals a division title by 2 games. Seriously, if everyone repeats their first half performance in the second half they should be just fine. The one person who needs to do better is Cordero. Throw more strikes. Stop getting behind in counts and walking batters and he will cut his blown saves down to 3 in the second half and the Reds will win the division if everyone else equals their first half performance.

That's a lot of "ifs". I suspect that everybody will as Chris Welsh says "come to their numbers on the back of their baseball cards". For some that would be good, Cabrera, but others Bruce, Gomes, Hernandez, Phillips, not so good.

That's my biggest concern. They have quite a few guys above where you would expect them to be as far as average.

Jose Bautista is on the block. Salary is only 2.4 million. Maybe add a little more power to the lineup? Any chance?

That could probably work as he is showing good power and can play the outfield and 3rd base. He could spell Rolen @ 3rd as well and there shouldn't be any falloff in the power potential.

Only risk is his BA. Stays around .240 if I'm not mistaken.

If we can sign this guy that'd be nuts!

The number one thing the Reds need is a level 10 magical healing spell for Rolen. As we noticed last year when he was out and when he returned, as well as the stints he's been out of the lineup this year, he is the one player Cincy can't do without for a long stretch. While Votto's numbers are fantastic this year, Rolen is my pick for NL MVP at the break. Rolen is the straw that stirs the drink for this club.
