June 27, 201016 yr Author I just wonder if Dusty has given any thought to switching Arthur and CoCo's roles. I think it would certainly help him sleep better at night. There are probably more than a few managers that wouldn't hesitate to make that move. I would feel so much more confident myself in Arthur closing out games but I guess CoCo would pout because he is the "closer". I wouldn't move Rhodes out of his role. You never know how he would fare with the new role. And what would you do with Cordero? You want him blowing leads in the 7th or 8th?

You hear them talk about it a lot that the hold guy faces a tougher matchup than the closer. As far as Cordero blowing a lead I would prefer he do it in the 7th rather than the 9th.
June 27, 201016 yr Almost 38 thousand fans tonight in attendance. Should be another good crowd tomorrow and the next 3 games versus the Phillies, although Wednesday's game is a business day special.
June 27, 201016 yr Phillips 4 Cabrera 6 Votto 3 Rolen 5 Gomes 7 Bruce 9 Stubbs 8 Miller 2 Arroyo 1 Bill Bray called up, LeCure sent to Louisville
June 27, 201016 yr I'm going to play a little Walt Jocketty here. What do you think of this move. The Reds face the Phillies next series. The scheduled matchup for Wednesday is Harang vs. Halladay. Not a good matchup for the Reds. Travis Wood pitched last night for Louisville. He pitched 8.0 shutout innings (5h, 1bb, 9k) to record his 5th victory of the season. Since 5/18, Wood has pitched 8 consecutive quality starts (4-2, 1.62 ERA, 55.2ip, 12r/10er, 11bb, 56k, .186 opponents batting average). Why not send a pitcher down, call up Wood to pitch against the lefty dominant Phillies on Wednesday, and push Harang back to the 1st game of the Cubs series on Thursday. It a nice thought but I have 2 issues with it right now.... 1. The Phillies are smashing the ball right now, not exactly the best situation to make your 1st start 2. If they Reds are planning on trading some pieces away at the deadline to make a run Wood is likely going to be in the mix. You send him up and he gets knocked around pretty good it could drop his value somewhat.

June 27, 201016 yr Author Bill Bray being called up gets me excited. Any chance before that 5th starter's next start comes up that Herrera goes down and Wood comes up? I think it definitely happens now. The Reds will need another starter for Thursday.

I don't see the Reds offering Wood in any trades. I can see Bailey, Maloney, Frazier, Heisey, and LeCure, but I would be very surprised if they traded Wood.

It looks like you are going to be right now after seeing the move they made today.
June 27, 201016 yr Author AAA Saturday night Gary Matthews Jr, 0 for 6 with 5K's from leadoff spot- Can they just go ahead and cut him now? I don't understand his signing at all. Who is he going to play in front of if he does get called up? Aroldis Chapman retired side in 7th on 9 pitches....with 2 K's- Very excited about seeing him in the bullpen in a couple of weeks. Bill Bray: 1 inning, 2 K, 10 pitches, 8 strikes- Called up today. Let's hope he stays injury free, and can give the Reds a huge boost from the left side in the pen. Jared Burton: 1 inning, H, 2 BB, K, 24 pitches, 13 strikes, error- If he can be the pitcher he was for the Reds in 2007 and 2008 that would be huge. Ryan Hanigan, 1-4, and he caught-Looking forward to getting him back. Miller has done a nice job, but Hanigan is a much bigger threat from the plate.
