Unless schools start allowing Muslims to have daily prayer, unless we start putting Allah on our flag or currency, unless we start having our students recite the Koran then its painfully obvious that Christians are not being discriminated against. Your rights are as follows: Go to any church you wish. Worship any god you wish. Don't go to church at all. Marry people within or outside of your faith. Be an atheist. Be an agnostic. So what rights are you looking for?
June 4, 201016 yr I absolutely think to some degree they are. It's frustrating when a small group of people get "offended" by something and it effects millions.

June 4, 201016 yr I have never been discriminated against and i have been a christian all my life. i can eat wherever I choose, I don't have to ride in the back of the bus, I can go to whatever school I wish, I can work wherever I wish (however, some christian places do discriminate in their hiring practices), I can pray whenever I choose, I am a principal and I pray in school - A LOT. Lets see, first amendment, second, third, fourth . . . I have all of my rights, I can say Merry Christmas to whomever I choose, whenever I choose. The government has not taken away the 10 Commandments (btw, if you have to have them posted to follow them that might be idolatry), I trust in God. Yep, I can't think of any rights that someone else has that I don't.
June 4, 201016 yr Ace, can you place the 10 commandments on the front porch of the school? Can you have a FCA meeting during club time during school hours? Can you pray during school out loud before you eat? Can you bring up Bible verses in class? Can you debate a nonbeliver teacher if you are a student? Can you wear a Jesus shirt to school? Can you pray before a ball game, or if someone gets hurt? Can a student/teacher pray for a sick relative? Be honest if you answer.

Why do the 10 commandments need to be placed on the front porch of the school? It seems to me that God's Word doesn't cite public display except in the doorway of one's house. Can other religious clubs meet during school hours? Why do you need to pray aloud before you eat? Didn't Jesus admonish the Pharisees for doing so? I can see the Bible verses being applicable when they deal with the subject matter being discussed but not just to cite the scripture. Never seen anyone break up a prayer group for an injured player and many teams I've been around still pray on their own prior to competition. Why couldn't a teacher/student pray for a sick relative? They just can't use school time and form a mandatory circle in the classroom to do it. But why should they? When one of my son's fellow bandmates was seriously hurt in a Friday car wreck, those who wanted to from the band met on the practice field with parents and prayed for him. We didn't need the permission of administration/authority or others to just have a simple, voluntary prayer. I will answer honestly for myself Larry. I do not see a need to be placated by culture, community or courtesy because of my faith. My faith is just that, my faith. I will share loudest in my actions and support it with simple, humble words when necessary in interpersonal relationships. I like your posts but am totally confused biblically, theologically and experientially by this one.

How is placing the 10 commandments on the front porch of the school necessary for me to be able worship as I please, and how is not placing it there discriminatory? 2. If other religious groups are allowed to meet, or even non-curricular clubs then yes FCA can - it is part of the "equal access" law passed, for that very reason. If other non-co-curricular groups are not allowed to meet then FCA cannot. Again, part of the equal access law the swings both ways. 3. I can pray out loud before I eat, again, if I chose, but I don't understand why I would do that. 4. There are probably occasions when I could bring up verses but again I don't understand why i would. 5. If the time and place are appropriate a non-believing student can certainly debate a teacher and vice-versa, but again why would a 43 year old man need to debate a 17 year old child. FWIW I was asked once on a bus ride by one of the managers on my basketball team how I arrived at my belief in God, and I spent a good hour sharing. She was interested, she asked me and I answered. Nothing in the world wrong with that. 7. I have a "Jesus is a liberal" shirt that I wear around to athletic events all of the time. But that is really just to stir things up. I could certainly wear a cross necklace or lapel pin if I so chose but i think that would be a bit gauche. 8. My basketball team always circled-up before the game and prayed or meditated silently before each game and I closed with "amen" - but I could just have well ended with "shalom" and all would have been the same. 9. A student comes to me and asks me to pray for a sick relative, would I ?- in my best Sarah Palin voice - "you betcha". However, my best proseltyizing takes place when I show my students God's love by taking care of them. I don't have to preach, or wear a "Jesus" t-shirt, or wish them Merry Christmas, or quote them the 10 Commandments. I can however, buy them a pair of shoes, or give them a t-shirt or take them to lunch or most importantly not let them drop out. That is my strongest Christian witness.
June 5, 201016 yr Hatz, confused? You have that freewill right as I do. 10 Commandments..It makes us feel good just to see God's word displayed Religious Clubs....Some can meet during school hours, FCA cannot in Kentucky /Jefferson County, also see FCA thread. Pray for Food...Jesus got on the Pharisees due to them going out in the streets and wanting to be seen by others with their prayers. The question was for Ace to be honest, but glad you want to post and also be honest. I try to be honest in every post. Placated by culture..I'm a disciple for Jesus Christ and Matthew 28 would fit also. Again sorry you are confused. Making a point with the principle about how Jesus isn't allowed to be in schools. Not hard.

June 5, 201016 yr Snotty? you have that right, I wasn't blaming you that Jesus isn't allowed in schools...Remember the thread topic. My Jesus isn't small. Matthew 7:1 And if Jesus is allowed to be discussed in your schools thats great, its different in Jefferson County. I have 4 sons. And notice I didn't question your Jesus in my comment post to Hatz.

I know you don't believe that Jesus is not allowed in schools, but that is my typical response when people says God is not allowed in schools. But I also believe that there might be some confusion as to what is and not allowed in schools in jefferson co. It might be the approach that is not allowed and there might be teachers who are confused about the law, and maybe even some principals, but what I stated above is not only allowed in my school it is pretty much the law, that is why it is allowed.
June 5, 201016 yr Religious beliefs are certainly allowed in school, including "Jesus." FWIW, I wear a cross necklace to school some days. What I don't do is preach to my students. I don't feel that it is my right in a public school to attempt to convince students of my religious beliefs. That is their parent's right.

I know that before every Volleyball game played at our school ( NCC ) a short 1 minute prayer is read bv the public address announcer . Oh and there are no non believer teachers there .
