Glenn Beck apologizes

Recommended Posts

(CNN) – Conservative talk-show host Glenn Beck apologized Friday after appearing to mock President Barack Obama’s 11-year-old daughter on his radio program earlier in the day.

In a statement posted on his website Friday afternoon, Beck said he broke his own rule about “leaving kids out of political debates.”

"Appearing to mock?" There is little doubt. And I like how in his very first line, he uses a diversionary tactic:

“In discussing how President Obama uses children to shield himself from criticism, I broke my own rule about leaving kids out of political debates,” said Beck in the statement. “The children of public figures should be left on the sidelines. It was a stupid mistake and I apologize–and as a dad I should have known better.”

Beck’s apology came hours after the radio host and his sidekicks imitated a pretend conversation between the president and Malia, in which Beck has his version of 11-year-old ask a series of questions that included “Daddy…why do you hate black people so much?”

Beck’s routine was prompted by a remark Obama made in his press conference Thursday, in which he said Malia had asked him earlier in the morning of the BP oil spill, "Did you plug the hole yet, Daddy?"

"Is that's their - that's the level of their education, that they're coming to - they're coming to daddy and saying 'Daddy, did you plug the hole yet?' Plug the hole!" said Beck of Malia's comments.

Beck is sad...so VERY, very sad. What's even worse is that there are those out there that listen to him and buy his tripe.

Glad to see he was man enough to apologized within hours of making the comments, instead of waiting days and days later like Letterman did.

That said, what Beck did still pales in comparison to what Letterman said about Palins daughter.

Indeed, TB&G. I have interviewed a few hundred people over the past five weeks while collecting data for the Census Bureau. Quite often, respondents will bring up politics when being interviewed. One old fellow was watching Beck while I was getting his census data. "There's someone who'll tell you the truth," the old fart said emphatically, pointing to Beck. "The country wasn't ready for a black President." The old guy, who claimed to be a preacher, went on to tell me that Beck tells the truth about Obama being a Muslim and a native of Kenya. I have heard this stuff over and over the last few weeks. Yes, Beck is doing a great disservice to this country trying to deceive the old and the intellectually-challenged among the population. From my experience talking to people in my area, Beck seems to strike a chord with the racially

insensitive and the uneducated.

That's the core voting block for the democrats, no wonder they hate Beck...he's talking directly to their people...LOL

Beck is no saint by any stretch but he is no different than Bill Mahr or Kieth Olberman in his speil, it is just from the opposite side. I bet a lot of you would have liked Beck 3-4 years ago when he was hammering GWB the way he hammers BHO now.

Agree. I loathe Beck but Bill Mahr may irritate me more. Glenn Beck is a smart guy, but has just chosen the $$$ over legitimate political debate. Mahr is an idiot on another level. I'm not sure he's ever listened to another opinion than his own.

Why does it always have to be an immediate "well, our guy is bad but no worse than (fill in the blank)." It doesn't matter which side it is, wrong is wrong and there are no qualifiers.

Who do you mean by "a lot of you?" The handful of us that have posted in this thread? What makes you think that?

If he was spouting that Bush was anti-American, a socialist, making fun of his daughters, and in general, promoting fear and panic amongst his listeners, then no, I wouldn't have enjoyed it.

I'll take a wild guess and say that wasn't the precise message.

Totally agree, both sides have their share of idiots and dividers. And low and behold, the almighty dollar is usually the reason.
