In preparing myself to get irritated to watch Harang pitch this evening I decided to do a little research on the theory that Dusty ruined him back in May 2008. Here are the details :

 

Harang started May 22nd against the Padres and pitched 5 1/3 and gave up 5 earned runs and threw 103 pitches

Harang pitched on May 25th in relief and pitched innings 13-16 and pitched great 4 IP , 0 ER's 9 K's and threw 63 pitches

Instead of skipping his turn in the rotation Dusty throws him out there on May 29th and be gets battered 4IP 10 hits 6 ER's

 

Here are Harang's numbers with the Reds through the 4 inning relief stint : 59-48 3.99 ERA

I think Harang's over the hill and a relief outing back in 2008 has zero to do with his ability to effectively pitch now.

I think he is done as well and really hope Walt and Dusty realize it and remove him from the rotation. They have Lecure and 3 guys in AAA that would be a better option at this point. When you get Volquez back it is a no-brainer.

Slow day in Hebron today..a little more research for the Dusty basher's

 

Reds record through April 24th 7-11 dead last in NL were averaging 4.55 runs a game and giving up 6.22 runs per game

 

Dusty chewed the team out after the 5-0 loss on the 24th after all the base running gaffes

 

April 25th – Current 22-9 best record in baseball..averaging 5.48 runs a game (3rd in baseball) and only giving up 3.71 runs a game (3rd in baseball)

I think a lot of us thought that relief appearance ruined his year and that's why he pitched so badly. It's obvious now that he has just hit a wall and doesn't appear like he will ever get over it.

I'm finally back in town after spending most of the last 3 weeks in Virginia or at my son's high school games so I haven't seen the Reds play during this hot streak. I've got a ticket to tomorrow's game in the 4192 Club so I'm going to head up and watch it. Hopefully I don't jinx them.

Already at 4 wins on the home stand. I thought for sure that would have you fired up...

 

An apparition claiming to malachaicrunch came to me in a dream and said that I shouldn't get my hopes up. Ryan Hanigan did not think he had a fracture at the time, but that is in fact what happened when the Reds catcher attempted to break up a double play during the fourth inning of Cincinnati’s win over Houston Friday night.

The Reds on Saturday placed Hanigan on the 15-day disabled list because of the fracture to the thumb on his left hand and selected the contract of veteran catcher Corky Miller from Louisville.

Miller was in uniform for the Reds Saturday night.

Hanigan’s fracture is near the top of the thumb, away from the joint.

“They said as fractures go, you’d rather have the kind he has,” Reds manager Dusty Baker

The Reds also activated infielder Paul Janish from the bereavement list and optioned infielder/outfielder Drew Sutton to Louisville.

Sutton, called up earlier this week to take Janish’s place, hit a pinch-hit grand slam Friday night, the first of his career.

Janish had been on the bereavement list to attend the funeral of his grandmother this week in Texas.
