May 20, 201016 yr Id rather have national titles than #1 recruiting classes. Until Cal wins a title he doesnt belong with those three coaches. 7 titles among them. They have had their share of MD all americans and had guys leave early for the pros. Age may be catching up to them but they have stayed at their schools for a long time. Im not convinced Cal will stay put. Concerning the bolded, Roy has only been at UNC for 7 seasons which is one less than Pitino was at UK. I'm not sure you can say he's been there a "long time."
May 20, 201016 yr My point he wont be there 15 years. He had 5 first rd NBA draft choices on his team this year and failed to reach the final four. How many NBA 1st rounders did Izzo have? Cal Can Flat out recruit and can definitely turn programs around. But he has not accomplished what those guys have including Izzo. How many titles would Izzo have, had he been at UK for 15 years. How many might Calipari have if he stays 15 years at UK? :idunno:
May 20, 201016 yr Do you think Roy will be leaving anytime soon? You never hear any rumors about Roy Williams leaving UNC. 15 seasons at Kansas before finally accepting his dream job at UNC. I would be willing to bet Williams is at UNC longer than Cal is at UK. Would UK fans be happy with this: * Tom Izzo * Four-Time National Coach of the Year * One NCAA, Five Big Ten & Two Big Ten Tournament Championships * 5 Final Four Appearances * 12 Straight NCAA Tournaments * 12 NBA Draft Picks, Including Six First Rounders * Six All-Americans * Graduates 84% of Players that Complete Eligibility

My point was that it's not like Roy has been in one spot for a long time now. He was at KU for a good stint. But he didn't win a single title until coming home to Chapel Hill. If we were having this discussion 7 years ago many of the complaints others have about Cal would be very much jermaine to Roy.
May 20, 201016 yr Are we talking about which coach we would take RIGHT NOW to run a program? Or are we talking about which coach has been the best coach? If we are talking about how has been the best, it would have to be Coach K. If we are talking about which coach to start with right now, then I would say Roy Williams. He is a great recruiter, plays a fun style, and wouldn't have to worry about him going to the NBA.

They wouldn't want him gone as much as some people wanted Tubby gone. However I do think a lot of people wouldn't be happy, and would be saying we get to the final four, but he can't get us over the top anymore. Not to mention they would not like his boring style of play. What has it been 10 years since Izzo's last title? If that was here at UK, then people would be starting to be unhappy with him IMO, even though he gets to the final four.
May 20, 201016 yr Izzo doesn't get near the talent that Duke gets yet puts up amazing results. He'd be hard to overlook. Maybe if he could recruit like Coach K and Roy maybe he'd have more than 1 title. Just saying......
May 20, 201016 yr Not to mention, some UK fans would hate his recruiting classes that are similar in appearance to Tubby's as well.

UK fans didn't hate Tubby's classes until they stopped panning out. It's all about the W's. Sure now we as a fan base are spoiled, but it hasn't always been like this as far as selecting the best players in the country.

Winning cures a lot but you know as well as I do if Izzo gets to the Final Four every other year without a title people are going to complain about how "if we just had 1 top 10 recruit we'd win it all". As for you guys being spoiled, I fear the year you guys have the number 9 class overall and not number 1. The sky is falling down mentality will be sky high.

Or we would be happy to have a few solid 3 and 4 year players that will be sandwiched by some superstars!!
