May 19, 201016 yr Wasn't JJ supposed to have a superior basketball intellect as a Dukie? His gaffe was almost as bad as Vince's free throw shooting. That's a myth. Just because he went to Duke doesn't mean he does everything right on the court. He is still an alum of the 2010 National Title team though. Horrible mistake at the end regardless. Especially coming out of a time out when the coach told the team exactly what to do in that situation. He and VC both blew it but SVG had nothing to say about the free throws but he was still mad about JJ's gaffe in the press conference. I'd say JJ won't be on the floor at the end of the 4th in game 3.
May 19, 201016 yr Haven't got to see a second of this series, which is apparantley a fortunate thing, judging by how the first two games have turned out. Not sure what the Magic's problem is all of a sudden, but I wouldn't start counting them out just yet. And Turk over VC??? Are you kidding me? On what planet is that a smart move?

The Magic lack any guy they can rely upon to handle the ball and make the correct play in crunch time. Turkoglu filled that void.

Nope, like you said you haven't seen the series. Turk in the playoffs last year is >>>>> than VC this year. Sure VC did well when they were blowing out two JV teams, but in this series (and for his entire career) he hides in the 4th and doesn't make plays when he actually has to. To me the Magic have two problems: They don't have a playmaker. I know you were high on Nelson, but he has like 6 assist for the series. That's why he's not an elite PG and the Magic can't score against the Celtics IMO. Even yesterday when the Celtics were struggling near the end of the game, Rondo found a way to make plays, the Magic don't have that. The second problem is an addition to the first. They rely on Vince Carter. He is overrated and is a front runner. Almost all of his points in this series have came in the first half of the games. He hit a big shot yesterday with about 5 minutes left and then took a bad shot and missed FTs down the stretch. Talent wise he wins by a mile over Turk, but as far as what the Magic need it's not even close. I said it when they got him, but Vince Carter was a terrible move.
May 19, 201016 yr Ah gotta love you some Vince Carter. I said it once a while ago but the guy just isn't a winner. I think all of us who weren't wearing Magic blinders said it. Boston winning this series will not be a surprise, but for Orlando to lose both games at home to start the series. Yikes. I guess now they understand this ain't the Bobcats or Hawks anymore. I figured they'd win in a do-or-die last night. Has anyone ever lost the first two at home and rebounded to win a series. That's a tall order.
May 19, 201016 yr I know Boston has never lost after leading 2-0...32-0 in franchise history. Hope I didn't just jinx them.

On what planet is that a smart move? 19.5 ppg, 5.7 reb, 5.0 ast 16.8 ppg, 5.3 reb, 4.9 ast 16.6 ppg, 3.9 reb, 3.1 ast That's the stats for Turk's last two season's in Orlando and Vince this year. Not much difference if you ask me. But, I question whether he'd have saved Orlando in this series. As noted earlier, Boston pushed them to the brink last year with no KG.
May 19, 201016 yr But, I question whether he'd have saved Orlando in this series. As noted earlier, Boston pushed them to the brink last year with no KG. When are you going to start telling the whole story with this little cute tidbit? The Magic didn't have Nelson, either, so please stop acting like the Celtics were so undermanned and the Magic weren't.
May 19, 201016 yr Down the stretch. The Magic lack any guy they can rely upon to handle the ball and make the correct play in crunch time. Turkoglu filled that void. Not having someone you can be confident in at the end of games affects everybody. It's not just that guy. When you have a clutch player, the rest of the team is more likely to step up and hit a big shot because it allows them to relax a bit, knowing they have Kobe or MJ or Bird or Magic out there. That guy will make a play for them at some point even if they miss a shot. But, if you don't have one, everyone presses, nobody knows who to go to, and you lose some of the confidence. Teams often look lost and disorganized in those situations. You can't feed the ball into Dwight Howard when the game is on the line down the stretch. He's not reliable of someone forces him to attempt anything that's not a dunk or a layup. And, if he misses, who is getting you a second shot? It's not likely Howard's hook shot from three feet is going to carem to the three point line where the rest of Orlando's lineup will be. I think it's a huge disadvantage in close games when your best player and big man is suddenly a liability.

The Magic didn't have Nelson, either, so please stop acting like the Celtics were so undermanned and the Magic weren't. When Jameer Nelson is the equivalent of Kevin Garnett. That's when I'll start including him. How's that? :thumb: Interesting that you only responded to that part of the post.
May 19, 201016 yr When Jameer Nelson is the equivalent of Kevin Garnett. That's when I'll start including him. How's that? :thumb: Interesting that you only responded to that part of the post. For someone so obsessed with the stats apparantely, it seems that Nelson and Garnett weren't too dissimilar in production this season....Also take a look at Hedo's #s this year compared to VC. Nowhere close to as good.
May 19, 201016 yr Yeah, but this is a different Rondo which should balance out the improvements from Gasol a little bit. I think it's all even as far as improvements. The Big 3 are older, but wiser. Kobe is older and playing the smartest basketball IMO that I have witnessed in the NBA. Gasol is a beast right now, but he's been guarded by Jeff Green & Boozer who are probably about 6'7" and Amare who my mother could probably post up. I can't wait to see the matchup between him and Garnett. Gun to my head and I'll pick the Lakers, but I think it's going to be an epic series (if it happens). I agree. I will be cheering for the Celtics should the final be what most think it will be, but I would pick the Lakers if I were betting.
May 19, 201016 yr I agree. I will be cheering for the Celtics should the final be what most think it will be, but I would pick the Lakers if I were betting. Boston seems to have found their championship form again. They're not quite as good as the team that trounced LA two years ago, and the Lakers are a better team. That should be a great finals, IMO. Boston has a lot of bigs to counter LA's size with. But, Pierce isn't at the level he was two years ago and he tore LA up in that series. That could be a big difference in the rematch.

The Magic didn't have Nelson, either, so please stop acting like the Celtics were so undermanned and the Magic weren't. Let's not compare the situation at all. One Nelson isn't, never has been and never will be on Garnett's level. For someone so obsessed with the stats apparantely, it seems that Nelson and Garnett weren't too dissimilar in production this season....Also take a look at Hedo's #s this year compared to VC. Nowhere close to as good. Numbers don't tell the story for the Magic unfortunately.
