Is it bush to have a defender hedge on a pick to try to stop Kobe from turning the corner? Is it bush to foul a guy who is about to dunk? If you can't see the difference in the things you listed and fouling someone who doesn't have the ball and is 70 feet from the basket there's no sense in arguing with you. There was 7 minutes left in the game and it's weak and tired to do that crap. I don't want to hear the Celtics talk about defense if they have to resort to a middle school tactic like that, it's just poor basketball IMO and there is nothing that is going to change my mind about that. Call it smart basketball if you want, I think it's a poor strategy no matter how bad the FT shooter is, because what happens when if the other team takes that person out? Now, any ticky-tac foul is a 2 shot penalty. Actually, name me one time when it's worked in the NBA.
May 28, 201016 yr I must say, the first quarter of this Lakers/Suns Game 6 had to be the worst officiating I've seen in the playoffs. And, that's certainly an accomplishment considering normal NBA officiating. The Lakers should be fine if they'll keep up their defensive intensity and continue to use their advantage on the front line and pound the glass. Phoenix just doesn't have enough to beat them unless the Lakers help them out.
May 28, 201016 yr ^Game 5. Kobe with three straight 3's. Lakers up 16. Brain cramp. The officials started calling everything for Phoenix, then switched to LA for a bit, now back to Phoenix. Stoudemire steamrolls Fisher and gets FT's. Nash jumped into Fisher's arm to start the game and got 3 FT's. The Laker's needed MMA training to survive the first 4 minutes, yet Kobe gets two cheap fouls. It's been pitiful. It makes the NBA nearly unwatchable at times. But, on to the game... Gasol's catch and finish to end the first quarter was one of those plays that makes you glad he's on your team. Very few big men could pull that off.
May 28, 201016 yr There's always anxiety watching LA because you never know when they'll put it in cruise control and let their opponents back in to it. It's all about their defense. Offensively, they can score enough regardless of what they do, but it's silly to not take advantage of their size. They've dominated the paint tonight. But, they got a little sloppy and lazy after the big run. They should be further ahead.

We see it differently, and neither of us is going to change our opinion. Anytime you foul like that when it's not out of desperation at the end of the game, it's weak in my book. What I do know is that it didn't work for Boston yesterday, didn't work for Cleveland last year, and didn't work for anyone when Shaq was in his prime. It's chicken basketball and I'd love to hear the argument that would state that it's not in the scenario it was used in yesterday.

If you can't get the ball back or get a stop on D that's your problem. Do whatever you have to do or can to give your team the best chance at winning the game.
