Jim Hicks Named Grant County Head Coach

Featured Replies

He might do ok but you have to admit he does have some baggage. Turley is a good coach but seems to always be looking for a better job. And Fraley underachieved with Knott Central...they got beat by a mediocre Butler team when they had the talent to be playing Shelby Valley on Saturday morning. Those are facts!

Who would you consider a good coach then midnight rider???

Butler was far from Mediocre and Fraley did a great job.

OK, he took a team that was already built, was preseason ranked # 1 in region, who any average coach could have gotten to rupp this year, and got lucky to even get there and when they did got beat by an average Butler team. KCC should have played Shelby Valley on Saturday morning with the draw they both had, anything less should have been a failure. So if you consider that a great job, i guess you are very average too!

They should have brought Carl Wenderoth back. Hicks is a good dude but he didn't take Conner anywhere

Not the same Jim Hicks.

I hear Utter is going to take a varsity assistant position with Coach Hicks.

No dog in this hunt, but I'm curious. Where are the facts?

Your assessment of Butler, is just that, an assessment. Thus it's subjective.

The same holds true of Knott's talent.

They're just opinions.

Although they were a good team, I think you overrate Knott Central a little bit. Fraley actually did a pretty good job with the material he had to work with. They were undersized to begin with. A good shooting team but could be streaky at times. They weren't the quickest team in the world by any means. And just because they were pre-season number 1 in the 14th region didn't mean there weren't other teams in the region that were every bit as good that would pose a challenge for them. Perry Central and Hazard both had good teams, with Perry defeating Shelby valley during the season.

Dave Fraley has also been to the state tournament at two other schools in his career and has won one state title. His record speaks for itself. He is a good coach that did what he was hired to do at Knott Central.

KCC was very lucky to make the state tournament this season. Breathitt County gave them a major scare in the first round of the region and PCC literally handed the regional championship to KCC after leading by 10 points with under 2 minutes to play. KCC should be thankful to make it to the sweet 16.

Surprosing hire. Looks like Hicks doesn't stay anywhere for a very long period of time. Look for him to be gone within 3 years.

Why would he leave? I know he has left other schools within 3 years but now he is close to his uncle billy, big school, and a place where he can be a district contender each year. I think he will be here for awhile.
