Charles Barkley really called Atlanta out last night. They showed a video clip of a timeout late in the game and I don't believe there was a single player paying attention to the coach. They were looking in the stands, looking in different directions but not paying attention to what the coach was drawing up.

 

If it's the play I remember, it was right after Horford banked in the 3, and the refs were reviewing whether it was a 2 or 3. It seemed Horford, Crawford, and Johnson were all watching the refs instead of paying attention.

I look for both Dallas and Portland to force game seven's tonight in their series.

 

I could see it, but I don't think Dallas wins on the road in SA. Haven't they lost something like 10 straight on the road to the Spurs in the playoffs?

 

I gave up on the Portland and Suns series. I don't see either as a contender, so that series is only slightly less boring to me than the Haws-Bucks. I like both teams though so maybe I'll give it another chance.

 

Also, the NBA needs to rework this. NBATV is awful, during game 5 of the Celtics-Heat series it seemed like the two calling the game were openly for the Celtics. So was I, but I thought it was unprofessional.

I would love to see the Mavs come back and win this, but with their choke job against the Heat in the 2006 Finals, then that performance against Golden State in 2007, they will be always questioned for their toughness and ability to win big games on the road.

It was the Celtics local feed. NBATV doesn't have their own crews. Every game on NBATV has had the local broadcast. I think TNT's last night of the Hawks game may have been that way too. I'm not sure of it though.

That choke job where the refs handed the Heat the title? How differently that team and franchise would be looked at if the refs didn't do everything in their power to make sure the Mavs didn't take a 3-0 lead.

Just the facts according to our guy Alok Pattani. Starting with the 2001 playoffs ...

A. The Mavs are 2-16 in playoff games officiated by Crawford since 2001 (including Game 3 of the Spurs series, a loss)... and 46-39 in all other playoff games. They won their first 2001 playoff game with him (Game 5 vs. Utah), so they've lost 15 of the last 16.

B. Against the spread, the Mavs are 4-14 with Crawford officiating ... and 45-40 in all other playoff games.

C. They averaged 21.9 free throws in the Crawford games; 27.1 free throws in the non-Crawford games.

So why does Danny rank so highly in the power rankings? Because any NBA official who can keep his job post-Donaghy with a documented history of bias against a particular team has to be commended. I'm being sarcastic. What a joke. The league could easily avoid these situations by admitting that, yes, from time to time, a team rubs an official the wrong way, and officials are human, and there's nothing we can do about this other than making sure the official and the team cross paths as little as possible -- like Crawford and Dallas, like Bill Kennedy and Boston, like Joey Crawford and San Antonio (1-4 in Crawford's 5 Spurs playoff games since he was suspended for ejecting Tim Duncan in 2007) -- but apparently it's easier to stick our heads in the sand and pretend this stuff isn't going on. You know, because Tim Donaghy's documented-by-the-FBI, staggeringly successful record of picking winners by playing on the biases of officials against certain teams didn't really happen. Even though it did. Let's just move on.

So much for Dallas. As I said in the Dallas is a contender thread.....I just don't trust them. I guess it's because they have lost their series in the first round in 3 of the last 4 years. I wonder who Dirk will be playing for next year.

 

The Spurs are older than the Lakers. Their next series will be telling as to if they can truly contend for the championship. Duncan is still below par as is Parker. Manu is Manu and if George Hill is their second best player I don't think they can win the West.
