Thoughts? Reasons why you agree or disagree?

Some reasons I support it:

  • Gets Rid of Our Current Tax Code (which we desperately need)
  • You Take Home Your Whole Paycheck
  • Gets Rid of the Hidden Costs in Goods
  • Will Create More Jobs

I am not sure of the specifics of what you speak. But I can assure you that if individual taxpayers had to pay taxes to the Govt. directly every month/ quarter instead of having it withheld from their pay checks, most individuals would certainly vote differently and not be so appathetic to what really goes on.

How many are employed by the IRS? Also I would guess all of the Tax preparers will be looking for work too. Not sayin I'm against it, just bringing up a talking point.

True, some would lose their jobs but I believe that the jobs created because of a much better economy from it would by far outweigh them.

I am 100% for the Fair Tax. The current system is just like anything else the government controls...Full of waste, fraud, loopholes and abuse.

I listen to Neal Boortz and go to his website from time to time, he is one of the co-writers of the Fair Tax book. It's very interesting how the whole thing came about. If I'm not mistaken, a very prominent group of businessmen, professors and economists came up with the idea. They have spent nearly 20 million dollars studying and developing the system. Judging from what I know about it, it seems to be the answer.

With nearly 50% of households in America not paying federal income tax (40% of which suck tax dollars in), something must be done to the current system. Under the Fair Tax nearly everyone will pay some federal tax.

I would suppose that there would still be some version of the IRS. They just wouldn't be collecting taxes. Maybe they would keep tabs on it all or something. Some would no doubt lose their job but as RTS stated, there's a good possibility that there would be Jobs a Plenty.

What's really going to make it hard to get the Fair Taxed passed is that politicians will no longer have lobbyists passing them bucks to regulate taxes on their products/services. Politicians will lose power for sure. We see that as a good thing, I don't think politicians do though.

If there is any tax added you can bet it will be added on top of what we already have, like the VAT everyone is discussing.................

Barry and the gang will be pushing hard for the VAT, and yes, it will be on top of everything and pulled right out of our pockets.

Educate me first, then i will vote.

My limited understanding of the Fair Tax concept tells me that individuals will cut checks to the govt periodically.

No one sees that being a collections issue? I think the IRS folks that many think will be replaced will become collections agents. The average American has zero clue how to budget so most will NOT have the cash that they owe.

Am I understanding that correctly/

From what I read it is all sales tax. No cutting a check to the government.

You are correct.

How would this 'fair tax' be better than a 'flat tax'?
