Preseason outlook for '10 - '11

Featured Replies

Most people have pointed to Duke as the leader of next year's preseason field. I guess they are under the impression everyone is returning? Is Singler leaving? What about Smith? They already lose 3 starters in Scheyer, Zoubek, and Thomas. Am I missing something here? The back court is obviously going to be strong.

Butler returns a lot, though I do not see them being a vastly improved team. They are what they are. Still a mid major without outstanding talent.

Michigan State returns quite a bit. I like Ohio State's team next year with the addition of Sullinger. The Big 10 overall should be as good any other conference.

UNC will be back to being a top 2 team in the ACC.

Locally speaking, with a 96 team field, a good shot of getting in both Murray State and Morehead State from the OVC. (BTW, Murray State finished #31 in the coaches poll :ylsuper:).

I believe if Singler comes back, and Smith (though I think he will regardless), Duke will be pre-season #1. This is a list of players they'll have.....

Miles Plumlee

Mason Plumlee

Kyle Singler

Nolan Smith

Seth Curry

Andre Dawkins

Kyrie Irving

1. Purdue

2. Michigan State

3. Ohio State

4. Memphis

5. Butler

12. UK

I thought Singler was almost set in stone gonna go to the draft. I may be wrong though. I look for Duke to lose Zoubek, Singler, and Thomas.

Duke should be solid next year along with Michigan State.

I look for UK to have a season much like they had this season, not quite as successful though. Win the SEC, and make a run in March. I don't feel we will have as much star power as we had this season and I know we'll be young again.

If things fall into place, the 2011-2012 season is when I expect UK to be a threat to win a NC. A stud freshman class combined hopefully with a little upperclassmen leadership.

Maybe it's just me, but the Plumlee brothers aren't anything to write home about. :idunno:

No Duke in your top five? Really? Wow!

Maybe it's just me, but the Plumlee brothers aren't anything to write home about. :idunno:

They were a freshman and sophomore respectively. I look for both to stay all four, and be very solid. Keep in mind, with great guard play, Duke doesn't need them to be great, just effective, ie...Lance Thomas, Brian Zoubek.

Vitale has Duke as his #1 going into next season and Butler #6.

I believe he has Ohio State, Michigan State, Purdue, and maybe Pitt in his top five.

I like the younger one. I think he's really going to show out next year.

Duke, Butler, Michigan State. Maybe Baylor, I know they lose one of their guards but I think most of their team is coming back?

Baylor also has Perry Jones coming in...

I also considered that. Dude doesn't seem consistent, but he seems like he has some serious skills. The report I've seen is that he disappears during games, but I've never seen a dude 6'11" with the handles he has. :thumb:

I think it is too early to even speculate. We have to see who stays in the draft and who signs with who. UK went from not in the top 20 to #1 in about a month last year after the season. Duke without Singler is not in the top 5 IMO.

They are more talented than Zoubek and Thomas, who were both starters on a National Champion.

Smith has already stated he'll be back. Singler I think is 50/50. After the tournament I've seen him projected early 2nd rd. I don't know what he'll do. If he comes back we are undoubtedly the preseason #1.

Starting 5 of

Irving

Smith

Curry/Dawkins

Singler

Plumlees

Off the bench we'd have the other of Dawkins/Curry, a Plumlee, Josh Hairston, Carrie Felix, Ryan Kelly and the freshman pg Thorton off the bench.

Or

Irving

Smith

Singler

Plumlee

With both Dawkins and Curry, Josh Hairston, Felix, Kelly and Thorton off the bench.

Without Singler, I see us going with more of a three guard lineup with Irving, Smith, and Curry/Dawkins with the two Plumlees. I'd say that's easily a top 10 team, maybe top 5 but who knows.
