Found this tinkering around on youtube.......Born as a project dedicated to pure AOR with a touch of Westcoast and melodic rock, LIONVILLE draw musical inspiration from acts like Toto,Richard Marx, Giant, Bad English, Survivor Band, and Boulevard. The band was started by Stefano Lionetti, a songwriter, singer, and guitarist based in Genova, Italy and his brother Alessandro. After years of playing the local club circuit of Genova, Stefano formed LIONVILLE with the encouragement and help of Pierpaolo “Zorro” Monti (Shining Line) and Alessandro Del Vecchio (Hardline, Revolution Saints, Ted Poley, etc.). With the involvement of singer Lars Säfsund (Work of Art), LIONVILLE quickly took shape and became something very near and dear to everyone involved.

With two critically acclaimed releases - which came out in 2011 and 2012 – Lionville managed to find their place in the European melodic rock scene while also appearing at Firefest in Nottingham in 2012. With their combination of rockin’ AOR tunes and classic Westcoast AOR sounds, Lionville piqued the interest of Frontiers, who signed the band in early 2016.

 

I've already downloaded all 3 of their albums....this tune is from their 2017 album "A World of Fools"

Just watched Logic perform 1-800-273-8255 on the VMAs. Having lost my dad to suicide, it moved me to tears. Very powerful song.

 

That number is the suicide prevention hotline.

Though I still intend to, I haven't yet dug deep enough into The War on Drugs to familiarize myself with them, but I have been digging the tune "Holding On" that's been in rotation on WNKU.

 

I'm trying to figure out what this song reminds me of, but I still haven't put my finger on it just yet.

 

Not sure why exactly, but every time I hear it I keep on thinking of the 80's band The Waterboys that also included Karl Wallinger who went onto to front World Party.

 

Though not identical, or really anywhere similar, I keep getting vibes of The Waterboys' tune "The Whole of the Moon".

 

Also, maybe I'm hearing a bit of Dire Straits, or maybe even a little bit of Jacob Dylan...maybe Future Islands... just not sure??? :idunno:

I picked up the 2011 The War on Drugs release Slave Ambient for literally a dime at a recent library sale (Final day of sale was $5 bag day where I crammed a ton of CD's into the big brown paper bag provided by the library), and because of you bringing them up, thought that there was no time like the present to give it a spin.

 

So far I'm really liking it a lot, and it's something that I know I'll listen to over and again.

 

Over the last few years I keep hearing the names The War on Drugs, and Cold War Kids not knowing which is which, and who is who, so at least finally I'm beginning to get a grip on who the War on Drugs are.

I've been meaning to explore the back catalogue of The New Pornographers for some time. Really love their new cut, "High Ticket Attractions." Very catchy.

 

 

Been hearing this recently on WNKU and I'm digging it too, and like you said "Very Catchy"

 

It's one that you immediately feel like you've heard it before.

 

It's stands on it's own, but I have to admit that when it comes on the radio I keep getting caught off guard at the beginning thinking that it's the Dandy Warhols' - "Bohemian Like You".

 

So I did a comparison, and in truth DW's, though there are rhythmic and tempo similarities to it, is closer sounding to Rolling Stones' - "Brown Sugar" after BS's 4 bar intro, whereas with "High Ticket Attractions" my head isn't making that "Brown Sugar" connection like I am with "Bohemian Like You".

 

Not that you would care Jim, but you're the only one that might...

 

So tonight a song comes on the radio, and I'm certain that this time I won't be fooled into thinking that it's The Dandy Warhols' - "Bohemian Like You" because that has already happened to me too many times when The New Pornographers' song "High Ticket Attraction" has come one...so while the intro is playing I'm expecting to hear...

 

"You can't imagine all the factions that form around high ticket attractions.....", and so on...

 

... and of course more than likely it's the newer tune being played than the DW's older tune that I countless times have mistaken for it, and wouldn't you know it, it was indeed "Bohemian Like You"...

 

I don't think I'll ever get this sorted out to know what tune is what upon hearing it's introduction.

 

Ok...got that out of my system.

Glad to see that one of my most favorite mellow hippy-folk bands Vetitver are getting some much deserved mainstream love in the new Subaru Crosstrek - Forever Young commercial with their relaxing laid back 2009 tune "Rolling Sea".

While this tune "The Sound" is more upbeat and immediate, Noah Gundersen's backlog of songs are full of beautifully sung introspective goose bumpy acoustic folky numbers.

This gem "All The Pretty Girls" by Icelantic band Kaleo has been out for a couple of years now, and while I haven't heard it in a while, thankfully it has stayed apart of my consciousness because out the the blue it resurfaced in my mind, and it sounds just as sweet as I remember.

 

Worthy of a listen if you happened to miss it the first time around.

I overlooked this invitation to post B; so sorry. Yes, I made it and the Pilgrimage Fest and it was fantastic! Though I went to broaden my horizons with newer artists and music, I primarily went to cross an artist off my bucket list.

 

Mavis Staples has been on my must see list since I first saw The Band's concert film The Last Waltz. This version of "The Weight" with Mavis, Pops Staples and the Staple Singers, made me a big fan.

 

She didn't perform "The Weight" at the festival, but closed her set with this..

Brought. The. House. Down!
