Posted this phat Chemical Brothers tune "Go" ft. Q-Tip a couple of years back, but it might've gone mostly unnoticed. Been hearing it a lot lately on some TV commercial, so now that it's likely in all of your subliminal minds, and you'll probably instantly recognize it, I suppose that there might be a chance that it could possibly resonate enough with you to enjoy the groove since it no longer sounds unfamiliar.

 

Saw Colter Wall a few months ago at the Burl. Really enjoy his voice.

 

Grayson Capps newest album, Scarlet Roses, is really good. He'll be in Lex at Willie's Locally Known next month.

 

J Roddy Walston's newest album isn't as good as some of their older stuff, but it's still solid. Their playing at The Burl May 1.

In the same spirit of "Not exactly New", this tune "Chicago" by Sufjan Stevens released in 2005 I feel has stood the test of time, and just grows more interesting to me with each listen.

I absolutely wore that Sufjan Stevens album out in my CD player. I still listen to this one, Seven Swans, Michigan, and Avalanche an awful lot!

Took me awhile getting past the pronunciation of his first name that I only knew him by his unusual name that I'm probably still mispronouncing, and not so much by his music, but every time I heard a tune by him not knowing it was him, I had to find out, and song after song I'm like "I am so digging this, I need to dig deeper", and I'm glad that I did.

 

He had been in town a number of times while I continued to overlook him...but no more.

 

I was thrilled to see him pop up (literally) on the Oscars recently performing his song "Mystery of Love" nominated for "Best Original Song" for the move "Call Me By Your Name".

 

It's so hard to explain, but when listening to him I feel weakened by a quivering and queasiness inside like the blood running through my veins just might not be flowing like it should, then usually before I know it a lump develops in my throat, and my chin then also begins to quiver.

Ha, and I definitely pronounced his first name "Suff-Jan" (rhymes with snuff can) when I first came across him. Any chance you got to check him out at the first MusicNow festival? It's the only time I've ever seen him live.

Nope and one that I'll never forgive myself for missing. I'm ashamed to admit that I've only been to one Music Now Festival, and it was the evening of Joanna Newsome and Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes. I missed Justin Vernon of Bon Iver the next evening but by happy accident he and Bryce Dessner of The National sat directly in front of me in the balcony during Pecknold's performance.

Holy Crap....I just checked out the MusicNow website, and had no idea that this year, outside of the event itself, they're also having a two day homecoming concert in Smale Park with numerous other noteworthy artists.

 

Also looks like the main event is being held it both the Masonic Center and Underground Railroad Freedom Center rather than Memorial Hall.

 

I had the chance of seeing the inside of the theater in the Masonic Center during the World Choir Games in 2012, and it blew me away because all this time I didn't even know that there was another theater within the Taft Theater building, and the place is seriously impressive, and to get to it you have to walk through the center through ornate floored hallways w/ ornate walls and ceilings with chandeliers etc... pretty cool experience.

In recent years I've tried my best to keep my ear to the ground on significant free shows within various mediums.

 

The escalating costs of festivals and bigger theater shows etc. have priced me right out of it, but no worries as I've always been more enchanted by small club shows for free, or next to free where I might even get to say hello to, and shake the hand of the artist on their climb up to the bigger stages.

 

This includes of course MOTR shows, and reasonably priced Woodward Theater, Southgate House, or Taft Ballrooms shows, free Fountain Square shows, CCM Dance, Theater, and Musical Theater workshops shows that are just as spectacular as anything with the level of talent.

 

One of the most phenomenally explosive free shows that I saw in 2017 was Diane Coffee at Northside's 4th of July Carnival. This was the 3rd time seeing him, and while I couldn't believe it was possible, this performance was even more incredible than the first two.

 

Going tomorrow night to the Music Hall for a free and intimate Rufus Wainwright Q&A with excerpts from a new opera that he has just written performed by Cincinnati Opera talents.

 

He just played a proper show at the Taft, but remained in town to get this show ready.

 

The Cincinnati Symphony sent me a postcard for my choice of a free concert at Music Hall that I'm taking in Friday morning.

 

I won tickets at CincyMusic back in October to see UFO/Saxon at Bogarts where upon leaving they gave me free Tix to see a decent AC/DC tribute band where upon leaving that show they gave me free Tix to see a decent 90's Tribute show where upon leaving that show they gave me free Tix to see a phenomenal Tom Petty tribute show, where upon leaving that show they gave me free Tix to see The Door of Chicago (Obvious Door Tribute band) this Friday night with decent psychedelic 70's rock band Lemon Sky, where judging by the upcoming tribute schedule I might be in for a free show the following evening of Weezer and Blink 182 tribute, and then possibly a Black Sabbath tribute in April featuring Vinny Appice, which looks like it might award me to free tix to a Phish tribute and then Pink Droid the following evening, and then I'm assuming that I'll just continue to keep leap frogging to more and more freebie tributes in the future, which typically are not half bad, and considering that I'm Dorian Gray it's an interesting people watch on my part to observe some folks even younger than me at times act as if music quit being good in the 80's or 90's for example. At the risk of sounding pretentious, that kind of stuff literally makes me feel young, or at least somewhat timeless to watch generation after generation become stuck in an era.

 

The catch is that I must keep attending (fine by me) as I don't blow my bucks on their overpriced drinks which is why all the freebies to begin with. :lol2:

 

Anyhow, while there was a time that I wouldn't miss a show that I really wanted to see no matter the price, I've got so much free stuff going on I don't know where I'd fit anything else in. :lol2:

 

Though I'm a bit ashamed to admit it because I suppose it would also indicate a certain amount of aging on my part, but I'm starting also to get a bit to the point where if a show feels too much like work (like a festival), then I have trouble justifying it. I haven't been to one Bunbury Festival, but with that said I watched the big screens and listened to Muse from the Purple People Bridge which was relatively good enough considering that It was completely free. I looked below to the herd of folks moving from stage to stage, and all I could think to say was "Moo".

 

Anyhow I'm envious as can be of your lineup, and anxious too to live vicariously through you when you report back to us here how all of these shows went. :ylsuper:
