What New Music Are You Listening To?

Just found out this cat dropped another album back at the end of August. I'm a BIG fan of is first album, released back in 2010 when he was 19 years old. He's still only 23...

I just called my buddy at Shake It Records and put in an order for a copy. I haven't heard any of the songs yet, but I've got some fairly high hopes for it based on his last album. Here's a cut from the first album. Seems like something FKYW, Jim Schue, and Hangman could be into.

Side note...LeBlanc is going to be playing at Zanzabar in Louisville on December 13th, opening for Joseph Arthur. I'll be there. It'll be a good show.

It's not new by any stretch of the imagination, but I am amazed at how many people I have introduced this artist to who have never heard of her, and that is a crime by commercial radio. Brandi Carlisl

Picked up Sturgill Simpson's album "Metamodern Sounds in Country Music" a couple of weeks ago on a recommendation from my brother. (Vinyl, of course.) I just got around to listening to it today, and it's VERY good. Definitely harkens back to the likes of Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings. Check out this cover of "The Promise" from the album.

Wye Oak's newest album 'Shriek' came out about 4 months ago or so. It's a little step in a different direction than their past albums, but I like it a lot. And Jenn Wasner is still kind of my official "celebrity crush"...if you can call her a celebrity.

I like Sturgill Simpson a lot. Reminds me of Jamey Johnson.

He just played on Conan. Apparently he's a Kentucky boy. Born in Breathitt County, and graduated high school from Woodford County HS.

I don't know who their music writer is at Garden & Gun, but I definitely like their taste in music. In the two oe so years that ive had a subscription to the magazine, they've profiled the Drive-by Truckers, Jason Isbell, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, and apparently now Sturgill Simpson. That's a SOLID list of musical acts.

Just got an email notification that Sturgill Simpson is playing a show at the Mercury Ballroom here in Louisville on Friday, January 30th. I think I'm gonna have to check that show out.
