I got a nasty surprise this moning. Someone had used my credit card to charge over $871 to a scuba gear company in Italy. I called my bank and they said I had to call the company. Well, my cellphone won't let me make international calls. So I'd have to find a landline to do it. I tried sending them an email but I doube they will pay it any attention.

The lady at the bank said I have to let the charge post before coming in and filling out a bunch of paperwork to try to stop them. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened to me. I heard about this happening to some other 5/3 costomers recently, but I didn't think I was one of the ones, since I hadn't been notified and, supposedly all those effected were notified.

I wish this was all an April Fool's joke...but, this time, it isn't. :irked:

Check yourself a credit report to see if there's been any other cards used/accounts opened/inquiries made and do it now. Hopefully it's just one card. If it's deeper than that you need to start moving on it quickly.

Lifelock is only $10.00 per month, it makes me sleep better.

I am a member or a credit union, its worth it, I had a case like this not as much money more like 100.00 but they took care of figthing it, and all was resolved with them just asking me if I spent it or not.

You need to do a little research into Lifelock. Got themselves into a little jam recently for claiming to do things they don't really do.

Great! Now he'll never sleep again!

BF, that's rotten! I'm really sorry to hear that!

The CC company should take care of all it for you BF. Usually these issues are resolved pretty quickly. Just sign the paper work and let them do their work! Still sucks though.

It was a 5/3 debit card; so I don't know if the rules work the same. She said I can't do anything until it posts. But I'm afraid of what they're out there doing now.

Is this a credit card or a debit card Birdsfan? I had something similar happen to both my wife, and me a couple of years ago. I caught them both because they charged little amounts first before they tried to charge a big item. 5/3 bank has a fraud department, you should definitely get in contact with them ASAP.

Good luck. My wife's purse was stolen a couple years ago. They used both the debit card and credit card within the hour before we were able to cancel everything. It was very easy to get the money back from the credit card companies. However, dealing with the bank was horrible, even with a police report.

Scuba gear? I think you made the purchase and forgot LOL LOL

Just trying to get you to laugh a little. This happend to us when we first got married...it sucks. Can you not cancel the card? I know that is what my mom did when her debit got used.....The bank was great after everything posted. The only thing that I hated was the fact that the money was returned by the bank and no one would try to find out who made the purchases...the police dept was not interrested and neither was the bank. I wish they would catch people like this and do something about it. Good luck!

BF, you didn't fall for one of those email scams where a King from Africa needs to deposit money into your bank account did you ? You can be honest with us :D

That sucks, I hope everything works out for you. I can't imagine dealing with the bank will be much fun.

I talked to the man at 5/3 Bank of Ft. Thomas who set up my business account. He's a pretty high-placed official there, and that's also where my personal account are. He took care of the situation for me. He canceled my old number and got me a new one so I can use it to pay my bills until the actual plastic comes. He was great about it! I'm starting to breathe a little now.

I still have this eerie feeling like someone came into my home and stole from my pockets. This has never happened to me, or anyone really close to me, before. It's sort of surprising how personal it feels. You really get that sense of being violated. It sounds like a cliché but it's actually true. It makes you feel really insecure.

Same thing happened to my wife and I a few weeks ago. Nailed us pretty good too.
