Congrats to the new coach! What is coach Stonebreakers record at Garrard?

 

He was 33-36 over 6 years at Garrard. He had a couple rough 2-9, 3-7 years, but also had back to back 9-3 years in '03 and '04.

 

His first head job was when he took over at Casey County in '99, he went 12-19 in three years there ('99-'01). No disrespect towards Casey County, but going 12-19 in three years at Casey County during the time he took the program over was about like winning the State Championship at most places.

 

I'm anxious to see how he'll do at Woodford. He'll have more talent to work with than he's ever had, but will also be playing v.s teams with a good deal of it, too.

Steve Stonebraker was 39-40 in seven seasons at Garrard County, lasting from 2001-07. In his first season at Garrard, the Lions finished 7-4, losing to Mason County in the first round of the playoffs. The Lions spent most of the season running the wishbone option, but that was more about personnel than anything. Stonebraker was always more of a "throw-it-around" type coach and over the last several years the Lions ran more of a spread-option.

 

After slipping to 4-6 in 2002, the Lions responded with two consecutive 9-3 seasons in 2003 and 2004 that both ended with second round losses to Chris Todd and Elizabethtown. The 2003 season was setting up to be really special before do-everything quarterback Spencer Crutchfield was injured late in the regular season.

 

After those seasons I thought Stonebraker overscheduled Garrard County considering the limited talent that was returning. What resulted were two very difficult years where the Lions finished 3-8 and 2-9. Playing a much more manageable schedule in 2007, the Lions finished 5-7, including a first round playoff win at Wayne County.

 

Ultimately I believe Woodford County made a good hire in Stonebraker. Leaving Garrard County for Centre might have been a good move for him. I think it allowed him a chance to see things done in a different way and I'm sure he's a better coach because of it. He definitely knows the game of football and the kids always seemed to like him. I'm hopeful that he does well in Versailles.

Stonebraker is a heckuva a hire for Woodford. He always seems to overachieve wherever he is. He did a great job this past year with the Centre wideouts and is a man who loves the game of football. Good luck to Coach Stonebraker.

A few years ago when he was at Casey County he was named the Danville Advocate Area Coach of the Year. In the cover photo it had him standing on a boulder, wearing a hardhat and holding a sledgehammer. It was pretty cool.:lol:

You can't ask for a better name than Stonebreaker for a football coach. LOVE that name!

Duane Hammons might have been one of the Final 4 and they might have considered him a finalist but I dont understand how that could be possible. Hammons didnt even get an interview!!! It ridiculous to not interview someone if they are one of your finalists!!!

I Heard from a person involved in the hiring process, that they did not even pull the applications, or resumes of anyone who could not teach a certain area. :ohbrother:

 

I find it hard to believe that in a school district this size they could not have made a fit for someone.

 

I by no means am knocking the hire don't take me wrong, but I don't think they looked at anyone other than one or two folks.

Denny Ledford applied and did not even get an interview either. It doesn't make much sense. Good luck to Coach Stonebraker though.
