I think "cautiously Optimistic" would be a good way to phrase it. I think there is a potential to have a very nice team /season. The RB's are an area of strength. I think the o-line with 3 starters returning should be solid. The Wr's will have 2 of the top 3 receivers return. The d-line will be anchored by Timmerman, and should be good. The Lb's have potential to be the most improved group on the team. The secondary returns 4 experienced players.

The Kicker and the punter both return. The major question mark will be the QB position. I think all of the candidates have positives and negatives.

 

To summarize, I think most signs point to a good year, with a few unknowns being significant enough to keep expectations in check for the moment.

 

The above sums it up best. I completely agree and , in reality, its going to come down to qb play. The qb will not have to be Erp but the qb will have to be able to be a positive. Gray has a chance to be a top back in NKY with Elliott and Oppenheimer.

Tri-State Sports shows the C.C. vs Ryle on the 20th of Aug. A Ryle coach told me this also.

I watched Cov. Cath. play against Highlands last year. I thought their secondary did a pretty good job against the pass. Though there were several passes completed the Highlands receiver was brought down pretty quickly. This may have hurt them against the run, but IMO next to St. X Ohio, Cov. Cath's pass defense was as good as Highlands saw all year.

I'd say 6-4 or 7-3, with losses to Ryle, Highlands, and St. X. I honestly feel that LaSalle could go either way - particularly because they'll be the only GCL team for Cov Cath this year. I think, based on the fact that Cov Cath has managed to be competitive in all of their matchups against LaSalle, and the fact that they've won one or two of those games, that Coach Wirth will have a good opportunity to have the Colonels geared up enough to pull away with an early-season W.

The Dixie, Beechwood, and NewCath games will not be close. I really think they can go 9-1 or 8-2. St. X is a tough one and IMO a bad game to play week 10. You never know what will happen in the first game of the season against Ryle, it could go either way. CovCath Highlands is going to be a battle this year.

I think Lex Cath and Dixie will both be good games, no doubt, but I see Dixie's young offense, albeit aided by Pike at quarterback, struggling against Cov Cath's linebacker corps and defensive backs. If Cov Cath can build a decent D-line from last year's underclassmen, their defense is going to be top-class. Lex Cath has been a good competition in the past 10 years, and I think the matchup has pretty close to split their wins in that time, so it may be a little closer to a toss-up than I acknowledge, but I'm gonna give the advantage to my boys in blue and white.

 

I think although Beechwood will improve on things this season, their program has returned somewhat to their form from the late 80's and early 90's, when they were a VERY tough, top-notch single-A football program without the size or depth they need to overcome Cov Cath. I don't say that to knock Beechwood - not whatsoever - but I will honestly be very surprised if Beechwood wins this year, and I'll give them all the credit in the world if they do.

 

I think New Cath, with a new head coach with no prior head-coaching experience, will probably struggle against Cov Cath. I'm not sure what kind of changes are being made to the coaching staff as a whole, but I just don't see it happening, regardless.
