I know they played last year in the State Tourny and Elliott Co won but a year later SV wins the state Title.

Elliott County 2009! But the question has to be out there, does Shelby Valley winning the start tournament hurt the legacy of Elliott County? Another question, why did Elliott generate all this pub while Shelby Valley got little if any? I think 20 years from now if a book is written in regards to Kentucky high school basketball Elliott County's team will be included with Clay County, Cuba, Wayland, Carr Creek but on a side note might include this Shelby Valley team and their accomplishments. Still sad even a year latter Elliott could not pull it off, had all the ingredients for a GREAT movie!

I feel like last years Shelby Valley team was still better then 09 Elliot Co.

I liked EC starting 5 better than SV.

 

When those guys were Jr's they lost to state Champ Mason Co, and had Mason Co on the ropes. Then last season they lost to Holmes. Holmes had the most talent of any team in 2009 and 2010.

I stand corrected. I checked and found that it was the semi's that SV, who was comprised mostly of juniors, beat a mostly senior ladened Elliot team. It was Bardstown that SV beat in the finals of the 2009 All 'A'... Anyhow, congratulations to Shelby Valley on 3 state titles over the last 2 seasons :thumb:

 

Elliot was a very good team, but I think that Shelby Valley was a better all around team with a higher B-Ball IQ.

 

Hard to compare, but Shelby took down a very tough Ballard team that had just beat 3 other tough teams in Shelby Co., Warren Central, and Scott Co. to advance to the finals and Elliot lost by 10 last year in the Semi's of the Sweet 16 to Holmes who I believe that this year's Ballard team was better than. Still hard to compare... and nothing against Elliot ... but ...

 

Shelby Valley now has 3 big trophies in their school's cage and Elliot has none.

Yep, that stat says it all, 3 to 0.

 

Doesn't diminish what a great group of kids Elliott had, but at the end of the day, look at the hardware.

Why is this even a question? Yes what Elliot Co. did as a small school was GREAT! I am from a small school, so I really understand how great that is. However it seems like people on here keep talking about them being like one of the best teams ever. How could you take Elliot over Shelby. Elliot was not the best team in the state two years ago, they weren't the best team last year, and probably wouldn't have been last year. Elliot was a great team, however this Shelby team should be talked about even more. They were 3 and 0 against Elliot, and won 2 All A Titles and now a State Title. I don't even know how you can compare the two.

That's the thing with Elliott County people just don't get: there was that special something were they just captured Kentucky's and in some regards the nation's attention! True they didn't win any state titles but 20-30 years from now we will be still talking about that group, they somehow captivated us all!

I am taking Elliott for the simple fact that last year's teams went 1-1 against each other and Elliott County won when it mattered the most in the state tourney. I thought Elliott was the better team last year.
