I took my daughter to our first sweet 16 and she had a blast. She loves watching Sara Hammond from Rock, but she was also very impressed with the girls from Mercy and the Moss kid from Boone Co. We were leaving the arena (now mind you she is a 5th grader) she looked at me and said one day dad, you'll be watching me play in the sweet 16! I told her if that happens I will be her biggest fan!

Diddle might be the best play to watch basketball in the state of KY. Plus, the city of Bowling Green is a great place to have the state tourney.

What a wonderful post!!! This is EXACTLY what the girls' (and boys') Sweet-16 is all about. When little kids get to see what a big deal the state tournament is, it is difficult for them to not "catch the dream" of being a participant, and maybe even the champion. And what a great dream to catch! Very good for you, Dad. Hopefully, your daughter willl chase her dream until she catches it.

Houchen Industries requested that the tournament be played in their backyard, I have no probem with that it may not be as centralized as some might like but they did save the tournament. Plus the community makes it worth the travel time.

You may have noticed that the State Championship Football games were held this year at WKU, as opposed to Papa John's in Louisville in the past.

 

Western Kentucky has people willing to step up with sponsorship money.

 

I don't see the Girls' State Tournament moving out of Bowling Green anytime soon.

I live in Letcher County. I have made numerous trip to Bowling Green. Is it inconvenient for our part of the state? A resounding yes, but the tourney is ran well there. The girls are treated well and the city embraces the tourney. Money talks and the KHSAA likes the title sponsor. The tourney will be there for awhile.

We would like the opportunity to host state tourney in Pikeville at the Expo Center someday and we could pass on eastern Kentucky hospitality to the rest of the state.

And the city of Bowling Green has made it known they embrace hosting anything they have the facilities for.

 

Dont be surprised to see BG make a serious bid for the baseball state tournament when the next round of bids is held.

Bowling Green has hosted the high school state golf tournament for several years now, and I think they will have it for several more.
