TrueBlueWildcat Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 This comes from the special group of assistants that Bud Selig hired about 6 months ago. An idea that would allow smaller market teams to switch to whatever division they wanted to on a yearly basis, as long as it made sense from a geographic standpoint. :ohbrother: This is one of those ideas that should have never been made public. It's horrendus!

It's horrendus! Yeah, they were talking about it on PTI and Around the Horn earlier, and I think it's freakin' stupid. Like Toronto or Balitimore or going to do that much better in the NL East.
Jim Schue Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Dumb. Can you switch from AL to NL? If you can't do that, how much switching around can actually be done, considering the "geographical sense" stipulation?
ColonelCrazy Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 If you can't do that, how much switching around can actually be done, considering the "geographical sense" stipulation? I wondered the same, but I can't imagine just letting a team jump from NL to AL (or vice versa) willy nilly.
The Scribe Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Kansas City wants to move to the International League but they are still a middle of the pack team there
sportsnut859 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I do think it'd be interesting to eliminate divisions and have only an AL and an NL with the top so many teams going from each side. That would eliminate teams going to the playoffs while struggling to reach .500 while teams can win 90 at times and not make it.
gchs_uk9 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Kansas City wants to move to the International League but they are still a middle of the pack team there I know you're joking, but I read a proposal about a month ago suggesting Major League Baseball divide into two divisions of 16 and 14 teams. Each season, the bottom 2 or 3 teams in the higher division could be relegated (a la European soccer) while the top 2 or 3 teams from the lower division could be promoted. While there certainly are some kinks that would need to be worked out, I actually thought the point had merit. I apologize for no link.
PutMeInCoach Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Get the dang Brewers back where they belong.
gchs_uk9 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Get the dang Brewers back where they belong. Seattle?:sssh:
John Anthony Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 There better off just doing revenue sharing..

That would eliminate teams going to the playoffs while struggling to reach .500 while teams can win 90 at times and not make it. That's basically how it was before 1969. There were no divisions or playoffs and the top team from each league played in the world series.
TrueBlueWildcat Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Solve the problem with a salary cap, baseball screwed up by not adopting this in the late 90's.
stick1 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Maybe the Reds can get in the jalepeno league with Ricky "The Wild Thang" Vaughn ! Man I despise Bud! Baseball was a great game of tradition when I was growing up.
