MLB division realignment proposal

Featured Replies

Solve the problem with a salary cap, baseball screwed up by not adopting this in the late 90's.

I agree and they have screwed up more knowing they are still screwing up but not doing anything about it!

I don't think it would be a bad idea to put the small market teams in one division for both the NL and AL.

I know you're joking, but I read a proposal about a month ago suggesting Major League Baseball divide into two divisions of 16 and 14 teams. Each season, the bottom 2 or 3 teams in the higher division could be relegated (a la European soccer) while the top 2 or 3 teams from the lower division could be promoted. While there certainly are some kinks that would need to be worked out, I actually thought the point had merit. I apologize for no link.

I think Bill Simmons is the one that wrote that article. If he didn't write the one you're talking about he wrote up a similar idea a couple of years ago.

That was probably it. I couldn't for the life of me remember where I read it, but I do read all of his stuff. I believe it was an interesting thought.

This comes from the special group of assistants that Bud Selig hired about 6 months ago.

An idea that would allow smaller market teams to switch to whatever division they wanted to on a yearly basis, as long as it made sense from a geographic standpoint.

:ohbrother: This is one of those ideas that should have never been made public. It's horrendus!

How can anyone be shocked by what comes out of the 17 million dollar man's mouth. His retirement can't come too soon imo.

That's basically how it was before 1969. There were no divisions or playoffs and the top team from each league played in the world series.

There were a lot less teams then though.
