Wow. Great news. I think most of us down here in the 12th region can vouch for how great of a player he is.

 

I would think that if both teams make it to round 2 and they face off, I would not be at all upset if the point guard from the winning team won Mr. Basketball. Chances are the winning team will be lead by Polson or Justice and I think would stamp a say so in who should be Mr. Basketball. I have seen Sewell, Justice and Polson play and I love Justice's game but I have seen Polson more and my bias towards Polson leans heavily in my choice. I definitely think Polson and Justice are the most deserving of the award and I would love to see Jarrod Polson walk away with the award. Honestly, I am just glad I get to watch him play high school ball for at least one more game.

 

I was told it's between Sewell, Justice and Polson, with both Justice and Polson in position to win it depending on how they (not their team) performs next week, if both do not perform well it will be Sewell.

 

I haven't seen Sewell play lately, but I have seen Justice the past two years, Justice is much like Polson, a very nice young man off the court with a very high basketball IQ! But like you, im slightly bias towards Jarrod, Plus the way he took over in the Sweet 16 last year, as well as several games this year, including the regional finals scoring 40 points.

 

I had other things planned for next week and didn't think I would be around for the Sweet 16 this year, so this will be the first time in 7 years that I have not been to the entire tourney. But I will be there to watch West Jessamine in their first game, as well as next Friday if the advance and play Shelby Valley.

This is the biggest problem I have with giving the Mr. Basketball to a kid like Polson or Justice.

 

One is a D1 walk-on, the other a DIII player. While they are certainly nice players, if they win the award that makes KY basketball a JOKE nationally IMO if your Mr. Bball isn't a D1 scholarship player!!

Who cares about how it looks nationally if your D-1 schoalrship Mr. Basketball winner goes to a D-1 school and sits on the bench for 4 years?

 

Not to mention we have D-1 scholarship guys who can only score 10 points a game in high school.

It should be given to the best HS player regardless of what level of college they will be attending.

IMHO, he is not the best senior in the state of Kentucky. Nice player, but not even close.

I too disagree! Sometimes it's a choice of where the kid wants to play, bot Justice and Polson could go to a D-1 school and not be a walk on if they wish. If someone like Jenkins would have won Mr Basketball last year is it right to say he should not win it unless he goes to a D-1 school? No!

Brendan Carrurthurs of South Oldham is signed, sealed, and delivered to Georgetown College. He should be a Mr. Basketball candidate as well.

On a year like this the award is about circumstances. That IMO is what elevates guys like Sewell, Justice, Polson, and Watts. Those guys are by far their team's go to guy and their teams revolve more around them. There are other great players like from Ballard, Scott Co, Holmes, etc who have multiple great players, but will split votes in their area possibly or play on more balanced teams. Then there are other guys who haven't got recognition because their teams are average in their regions and aren't well known like Vance Hall, Thomas Jackson, and Brendon Carruthurs. There is no Chris Lofton this year who is a no doubt Mr. Basketball lock.

I also learned last night that Rick Stansbury visited the other night to watch Polson in action.

The one reason i have a problem giving Mr. Basketball to some D-1 level players is they are being givin a D-1 scholarship on potential alone. In my opinion Mr. Baketball should be given to a player who helps their team in most ways. Polson and Justice arwe both very deserving. I think Sewell is also a deserving candidate. Punishing a kid for playing D-3 or a walk-on somewhere by not awarding them with Mr. Basketball is crazy. These two kids are still playing. The best high school player should recieve the award not the kid with the best potential in college. This is a high school award, not college. Again just my opinion.

What about great players who are on strong teams and don't have to carry the load? Does that mean they are less of a player or any less deserving. Its easier to put up higher stats when you are the only or one of your only team's choices, and/or you have a weaker opponents.
