March 6, 201016 yr I don't really think there was ever any doubt about Cronin returning. He probably deserves one more year, but at the same time, I can't say that I'd be disappointed if they went in another direction. He's pulled the program out of the rubble, but that's about all he's going to be able to do IMO.
March 6, 201016 yr I wouldn't have an issue with this if any of his players actually got better under him. He pulled them out of trouble just by recruiting alone to bad he hasn't been able to develop any of them.

He must be one heck of a coach then...
March 6, 201016 yr So the team has improved every year, but none of the players have gotten better? He must be one heck of a coach then... The talent of players has went up because he can recruit but he none of them have really stepped up all that much. The team improved because there is more talent their now. It's getting to the next level that is the issue IMO and I don't know if he can take them there.

To your point, it's pretty tough to make very average players much better than they are coming in, and that's what UC has in the JR and SR class. Bishop is the only one that belongs on a Big East roster, but given the situation Mick inherited he had to have bodies just to restore the foundation of the program. Next year the SOPH and JR class have to take the next step...
March 7, 201016 yr Mick started with nothing!!! He has gotten them to a respectable playing level in just a couple of years. Give the guy a couple more years and see what he can do. Right now we live in a world of immediate gratification. It is very hard to turn things around in just a couple of years (exception UK). People need to be patient. Look at UC football. Danintonio brought the Cats to a level of respectablility. It took a few more years (with Kelly) to take it to the next level. Give Mick some time, and support and he will prove his worth. He already has shown he can build a program at Murray State. Just because Cincinnati is bigger, it doesn't mean it's easier. Just the opposite. They play in the best basketball conference in the nation. It is going to be tough!!! And take some time!!!
March 7, 201016 yr Give Mick some time, and support and he will prove his worth. He already has shown he can build a program at Murray State. Murray State has something like 24 straight winning seasons. The Racers were good before AND after Mick Cronin was there. So you can say he's a good coach, but you can't see he built the Murray State program.
March 7, 201016 yr Gates has gotten worse, Downey has gotten worse, and Stephenson went from being a high 1st round guy to a bottom 2nd round. Mick can recruit but he isn't a very good coach or developer of talent. JMO...:idunno:
March 7, 201016 yr If they get rid of Cronin soon it doesn't cost them the absurd amount that was thrown around. I'd get rid of him right after their first round loss in the BE tourney.

We are a good mid-major school that just always seems to be a stepping stone school but they have a great basketball history!
March 7, 201016 yr Thank goodness that Mike Thomas is not UK's AD. Clearly, different expectation levels. If he truly likes the direction of the UC program, that is perplexing imo. Good luck to Cronin and UC.
