Covington Catholic Internet Radio Article. Cinti. Enquirer

Featured Replies

Cincinnati Enquirer contributor Marc Hardin has an excellent article in today's paper about Mark Wehry and the Covington Catholic Internet Radio production. Cincinnati Enquirer.

Among other things, the article recounts the story of Cov. Cath. graduate Ryan Riesenbeck tuning in to Colonel football games from his tent while off duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom (2005). Marc later received a photograph of Ryan and some of his fellow servicemen holding their weapons and a sign that read, "Go Colonels. Beat Moeller. Win State." It is a great article.

There are hundreds of similiar stories from Cov. Cath. fans who have been given a small taste of home through Mark, Jason Elfers and rest of the Covcathiradio production team's efforts. One from this year involves a Cov. Cath. basketball parent laid up in a hospital bed at St. E's who was able to listen to his son hit 2 critical 3-point shots in route to being named the co-player of the game against Conner. When the son hit his second 3, dad raised enough cain to have the nurses scramble in to see what was up.

Great job Mark, J-Man and the rest of the crew. :notworthy:

Dave Schabel pondered why more schools don't do it. I can tell you why. It takes a tremendous amount of time and dedication (and an understanding wife).

Not too many people outside of Mark and Dave have all 3.

Congratulations on the article in the paper:thumb: Well deserved recognition. Your dedication is unparalleled and I'm sure that I'm not alone in saying that you've really helped make the whole local H.S. sports experience 1000 times greater. You've really now earned the experience to be doing this professionally, but the only downside to that would be losing you at CovCath internet radio. Don't wanna see that happen. Keep up the good work:thumb:

He is a homer, though.

This is their passion. It is great to be able to do the things you love doing and we are all the benefactors of their effort. The well deserved recognition is just icing on the cake. Congrats and never lose that enthusiasm!

Stick around one night after a game and watch the kids flock to the mic, it is really something special for the players too.

Great article and they do a great job calling the games. Always enjoy listening to them when I can't make it out to a game.

Thanks everyone. Clyde you're pretty objective, maybe you should try it! I am sorry Marc Hardin left out Jason, Bill the Producer and Mikey D and John Robinson.

Pretty funny story about everyone depending on the broadcasts as I walked into my first ever father/daughter dance at Notre Dame Academy and every Dad I saw looked at me in horror that they would not be able to go home and listen to the CovCath/Simon Kenton game. Too funny.

Also, being in the booth with my son winning state football was the highlight of it all. Thanks to Mike Listerman for picking me and a big thanks to Dave Schabell who deserves more credit than us for doing it longer and showing us how to do it. The founding Grandfather!!!

He is a homer, though.

LOL. So was Joe Nuxhall and everyone loved him for it!!!!

Great article and MUCH deserved recognition for Marks' efforts!!!!

Keep up the great work Mark and crew!!!:notworthy:

Congrats Mark, but more importantly, thanks to Terri! :-)

Congrats Mark, but more importantly, thanks to Terri! :-)

Are you kidding, she's just glad he's out of the house!

She follows me like a groupie.

Congrats to Mark and his extensive crew for a great job in giving the kids and their parents something to look forward to when they can't attend the games, and particularly for recording their games for posterity. I know from talking to Mark and Dave Schabell that the "hits" for the archived broadcasts always tend to outdo the live ones. Many old games are still often listened to years & years later.

As the article points out, this is a great way for the many alumni, family, extended family and other interested parties (even competitors) to keep track of the games when they can't attend, or even if they just want to catch up on a game of interest they may have missed. Each program has heartwarming stories like those in the article of far flung fans, given comfort and some connection to home through these broadcasts. I've been told that even players and coaches sometimes listen to these broadcasts, and the critiques of their performances--Maybe Mark will agree? :D

It's a heckova a service for everyone involved in the respective high school programs that these broadcasters serve, and as Clyde pointed out, also a very time consuming task; but one well worth the efforts given the devotion to the kids that guys like Mark & Dave have. Hats off to them, and I agree with Schabell, why doesn't every program of some magnitude offer this service for their kids??

Nice article and well deserved. I enjoy catching games when I am either out of town or stuck at home and cant get a pass to go to a game. I really like the way they cover the Frosh as well.

Well deserved, you guys do a great job.

You guys make life easy for folks like myself who travel a lot. Much appreciation!
