It is a component in the Sweet sixteen because there isn't abetter way to do it. You can't just seed them by the rankings because no one has seen all the teams and has no way to know which ones deserve to be seeded ahead of the other. In the district there is a better way becaus e all the teams play eachother and you can use the records like 95% of the rest of the state.

You still haven't explained your CONSISTANT statement yet.

Oh really? I would bet there are quite a few people who have seen all of the top teams in the state play and would be qualified to be on a "selection committee". We know there are computer rankings, which come out weekly that could aid in the process. There is no reason the state toureny couldn't be seeded, if they wanted it to be.

What didn't I explain? The sweet 16 is 100% a blind draw and the regional is a modified blind draw. Seeding the district would be in line with what goes on in later rounds.

I don't want to argue for a blind draw. I would rather have everything seeded, but lets not act like districts that have a blind draw are doing something really crazy and out there. What is crazy is that the KHSAA doesn't mandate that all districts are seeded or that all districts use a blind draw.

Real classy Bpiccola. Let me guess, you got a dog in the fight tonight when 2 very good teams play and one goes home a loser. Quit your crying and let the kids play the game. The better team will prevail and if its your team then you can be happy. Coach Sorrell is doing a great job at Bellevue and with limited numbers. To mock what he quotes is sophomoric. These are HS kids and they are trying to feel good about themselves and all you want to do is cry in your spilled milk and rain on their parade. Shame on you.

Wow what a dressing down. Did you read the post? I never said the coach was doing a bad job. It has nothing to do with kids trying to feel good about themselves. My comment was regarding his usage of the word amazing to describe his team's birth in the regional tournament. He's an adult not a child. I spoke about his comment not any of his players. I don't make negative comments about players, but I will say something about an adult. It's nice to know that the Kumbaya Captain is on his job.

The NCAA tourney committeee is seeding 65 teams. The "state selection committee" would only have to seed 16 and the "regional selection committee would only have to seed eight.

Plus most of the NCAA controversy is over who gets in and who is left out, that isn't even an issue with seeding the state tourney or the regional. Certainly there would be the occasional controversy, but if they wanted to do it, it wouldn't be difficult.

Wow, it's mature as long as are talking about an adult and not the players. I'll make a mental note of that! :puke::rolleyes: And it's spelled CAPTAIN.

Sorry for the grammer mistake. I appreciate you bringing that to my attention. I will try to edit it right away.

:notworthy:It was a spelling, not grammar mistake.... just FYI

Why start the thread that way? Just admit you didn't have to use Sorrel's quote to get your point across. We know where you are going with it anyway. See the 36th district thread. Kumbya I doubt severely, I like to stir the pot as much as the next guy but I just thought you didn't have to mock the coach's quote.

Well that's the great thing about the site. You can think, perceive and feel anyway you choose. It is certainly your privilege has a paying member on this site to articulate your outrage, frustration, disppointment, sadness ect... about the way something was posted.

You're right. But it would be so controversial that it would be unreal and not worth the effort, and it would be more than "occasional" too.

There are only a few districts in the entire state that still blind draw. The purpose of the regional tournament is to narrow down to the best 8 teams from the region and ultimately send the best team to the state tournament. In order to do this, there has to be seeding in the districts. My comment was in support of Coach Sorrell and his team. I wish them the best of luck, but the state needs to intervene so that the regional and state tournaments are represented by the best basketball teams and NCC and Highlands are two of the best 8 teams in the region without question.

This exact discussion happened a couple of years ago when these two teams drew each other. The game was at HHS and they ended NCC's season (if I remember correctly). At that time someone said there was only 2 districts left in the state that still blind draw. I'm just trying to recall that conversation so I have no idea if it's right or wrong...so don't hammer me if it's incorrect.

Both teams are strong so it's good it's on a neutral floor so there's no advantage from that aspect.

"This feels pretty amazing to finally get us back to the region"

Tommy Sorrell Bellevue Head Basketball Coach Bellevue Tigers

Coach Sorrell if you draw long enough you'll eventually pull a rabbit out of the hat. Nothing really amazing about drawing a team with a recored of 2-21. It's even less amazing that you beat them.

I have to agree with qryche11 100% - Real Classy Bpiccola. Unfortunately you don't get it and probrably never will. I would assume based on your post you've never coached nor played the game to think it "amazing" to make it to the region. Whether it be by the luck of the draw, seeding, being the underdog or talent. Best of Luck to all of the remaining teams.

Gotta love tourney time. And I thought we were cantankerous in the 33rd District.

I have no problem if he said it amazing for his kids, but he said to get us back like it was all him. Just say the kids did an amazing job tonight, Im very proud of them. Good coaches give all the credit to the kids when things go well. I have a real problem with the other part of the comment.......This feels pretty amazing to finally get us back to the region, but I told the girls not to be satisfied," Bellevue coach Tommy Sorrell said. The part of not to be satisfied is that a joke, what do you want them to do now. Be happy your kids get to play in the region dont put a target for them to get beat by a lot on their back with that comment. That is rubbing it in it seems to me on NCC and HHS, were in the region and one of you will not. It would not be a surprise to me to see this district final score get way out of hand.
