You all obviously do not know this man and you cannot always believe what you read. The newspaper and their writers can sometimes add one word or take one word away that can make a statement completely change it's context. Coach Sorrell is not self-endulgent, he is about his team and he is still playing so I am sure he is just trying to keep them motivated to play hard in the next game. Geez guys, this thread has really gotten out of hand. Turn the microscope off and talk basketball, that's what its about....

There are only a few districts in the entire state that still blind draw.

According to the KHSAA site, there are 10 districts in boys and 10 in girls that don't seed: 7, 8 (boys only), 36, 38, 39, 43, 49, 53 (girls only), 54, 55, 61.

They have a huge commitee that watch game film endlessly of the top teams and vote on it with some degree of knowledge. And it maight be a better way but that is a huge undertaking. to seed in district is very easy and requires only people voting to want whats best for the tournament on a whole and not just for their school at the presnt time.

Oh really? I would bet there are quite a few people who have seen all of the top teams in the state play and would be qualified to be on a "selection committee". We know there are computer rankings, which come out weekly that could aid in the process. There is no reason the state toureny couldn't be seeded, if they wanted it to be.

Who would serve on this committee and, more importantly, what is their incentive to participate?

The line would be long of individuals wanting to do this (both at the regional and state levels) for free.

I think you're grossly overestimating how willing people would be to submit themselves to such a process, even if there was some per diem involved.

Well, since I know a lot of those people who possess that knowledge, I can most certainly say that you're wrong. Most of them wouldn't want to deal with the hassle, as well as the ridiculous politics that would be involved. And that's if they can talk their employer into letting them off a day of work to participate in something like this "just for fun."

Wow that brush you are painting with is wide. Anecdotal evidence hardly means I am wrong. Feel free to disagree all you want though.

I look at it from the standpoint of a realist. It would be a thankless job fraught with hours upon hours of second-guessing and complaints and accusations of biases. Not to mention the logistical issues I mentioned. Call it anecdotal all you want, but I know enough of the people who would be called on for such a task to where I feel pretty comfortable with the validity of my claim.

It's great to theorize about stuff like this; quite another thing to look at the total picture, warts and all.

For the sake of argument, Hot Shot, who do you think should be on the seeding committee? Don't just give random names either, but also note why they are qualified.

For the region: How about a rotating committee of ten (10) comprised of AD's from the schools in the region whose teams are not competing in the state tourney.

For the state: How about each region elects one person to be their representative on the state seeding committee.

Jim: You do realize that basketball wouldn't be a trailblazer in seeding a statewide tourney. Correct?

As far as your representatives go, I thought the goal was to get people who see teams play all over the state so as to be able to compare and contrast? How are ADs, who are devoted to one school, going to be able to do all that research?

And yes, I realize that other statewide tournaments are seeded. However, none of them have the widespread interest and passion devoted to them that basketball does, which makes it subject to an incredible microscope.

Did you read?

The AD's were suggested to seed the regional tourney.

I would hope that each region would have people familiar enough with the state basketball scene that would be worthy candidates to seed the state tourney.

Doubt if we have to many people in the 9th that have seen many 2nd 3rd or 4th region teams.

OK, I thought we were only talking about the Sweet 16 here. Seeding the regionals is probably a non-starter, since it would render the district tournaments even more meaningless than they already are. If you're going to seed the regions, you might as well do away with the districts altogether.

You're being too vague. Who would be likely candidates for this job? Obviously, ADs are out, because of what I noted above. I doubt too many coaches who just saw their season end would want to do it. Who's left?
