February 23, 201016 yr Women lost today, so they're out as well. One of the Mikes said this morning that curling was a combination of shuffleboard and housekeeping.
February 23, 201016 yr I watched a little the other night and it was obvious to even a first time observer that the main dude from the US (Schuster?) is not good. I like he kept saying I got this and then totally screwed it up. As to curling in general, the only reason I can see for popularity of that sport is that it gives you plenty of time for drinking. Curling = cornhole?

February 23, 201016 yr I'd wager that with some training, they could play. Not at an elite level, but they could play. Now, I seriously doubt that either Mike could perform the vast majority of Winter Olympic sports at any level.
February 24, 201016 yr US curling sucks... I think for the first time I feel I could beat an olympic athlete in a sport.
February 24, 201016 yr It's not a sport, its a recreation. Any activity that allows you to wear dangling earrings as you participate excludes it from being a sport. It should not be in the Olympics. Though the US ladies were pretty soft on the eyes!.

Curling = cornhole? Actually Schuster lead his team to a Bronze at the Olympics 4 years ago and is one of the most respected skips in the game internationally. But, for whatever reason, he doesn't have it right now. Call it a slump or whatever. He can't seem to find the feel, and has hurt his team tremendusly.

Admit it...you were disappointed to tune in and not see a bunch of women racing to put brush rollers in the hair of another group of women. Go ahead...admit it.

Though the US ladies were pretty soft on the eyes!. I don't understand. Is that the only difference? Many of the things we value in other sports are present: strength, finesse, hand-eye coordination. What makes curling different?
February 24, 201016 yr Nope, once again a recreational activity It's compared a lot of times to golf, there is a lot of skill involved. Just because one does not undertand something, or like it, doesn't mean it is not a sport. It's a sport that has been around a long long time.

What makes curling different? If you can drink a beer, smoke a cigarette, wear dangling jewelry and not perspire while you participate- it is hard for me to call it a sport. I do believe there is a lot of skill involved in many of these activities, but I'm hard pressed to call them a sport. And oh yes, you can add darts, golf and poker into this same category. This topic would probably make for a good thread?
