Simple answer yes.

 

 

I am of the mindset that unless you get physically dominated the reason a team loses is because of preparedness. Being prepared is the responsibility of the coach. So if they lose it is the coach's fault!

 

Players win games coaches lose games. To me if a coach does not look at it that way they are not accepting the responsibility of being a coach!!

 

That is wonderful for a coach to say to protect his players and build up their confidence, but that is not reality.

 

Players need to execute; sometimes, even the most and best prepared 15, 16, 17, or 18 year old will not execute or will get out-athleted by the player across from them. There is nothing a coach can do about that.

A few things: They are losing Miles Simpson one of the best players in the whole state. They are losing most of their line too aren't they? How did they do before Miles Simpson? They really hadn't done much until Simpson was an upperclassman.

 

I know one thing I noticed and mentioned before from watching their games, is the coaching staff does seem to wait a little long before making adjustments during the game. That is one thing these top teams can do, is make good quick adjustments on the fly. While it seemed like SK didn't do a good job of that, at least not till halftime. I know in their second playoff game against Manual I think it was, there was an obvious adjustment they could have made but didn't till the second half. Them waiting so long almost cost them the game.

 

So yes I do think they need to prepare a little better, and well get better with in game adjustments from the games that I seen. Now they are also losing Simpson, so I think they might have a hard time now. We will definitely get to see how good the coaches are this season now. Will they continue with what they had going, or go back to what they were before Simpson?

Its also up to a coach to put his team in the best position to succeed. Maybe in certain situations, a play call here or there might not have been what was best for his players to succeed. So yes there is something a coach can do about that, if they are not putting his players in the best position to succeed. I am not saying that is the case here, however its not all on the kids being able to execute like you say.

If they do not execute, then they were not prepared.

 

Getting out athleted, as you say, is what I said in my post. If they are just better athletically then they are better and is what I posted about. That happens more on an individual basis but rarely is the case that one team is physically dominate over another team.

Marksberry has been the HC at Simon Kenton since 2000, I believe. During that time, he never won more than 6 games in a season until 2008. The only difference in 2008 and 2009 was Miles Simpson.

 

It is not just Miles Simpson. There are a lot of good football players that are underclassmen at SK that came together as freshman. They are seniors this year so we will see what happens. It takes more than one player to make a team a contender two years running. The quarterback put up some good #'s this year and will only be better next year. I see SK going deep into the playoffs next season as well!

Simon Kenton has made an amazing turn around from a terrible team to maybe the best public 6A program going. What a joke comment!!

Like that really matters any more. Well, he didnt transfer to Highlands and his last name isnt Moss, so he may find some hurdles in playing the 2010 season.

Allow me to clarify.

 

Coach did everything he could and maxed out this team's performance. The loss to X was NOT because of coaching or prep.
