What's the word out of Henry Co. ?

Coach Johnson is the man for the Henry Co. opening. He wants the job and should be given much consideration when the job is filled. So what if he is not a teacher. Let the school worry about hiring a teacher to fill Coach E's. spot. Where does it say the head coach must be a teacher. He is a teacher of young men on the practice field and off the field as well. No one cares more for the players than he and his wife do. Their house is always open to any player that needs somewhere to call home. He learned well from his father and brother who were both head football coaches at Henry County. Keep the legacy alive. Give Coach J a shot. He is very deserving of a chance to lead the Wildcats.

 

Most public schools require that the head football and head baskteball coaches be rank 1 coaches which means they must be teaching in the building. I am not familiar with Henry Co.'s BOE rule but this usually keeps non teachers from getting head coaching jos in these sports.

Its already been two weeks and the Henry Co. job has not been posted. They will fool around and not have a person hired before spring ball and the program will slide backwards. Spring ball is huge for a new coach to put in his offense and defense and get to know his players. Also a great time to look at some young players to fill gaps left by departing seniors. I sure hope someone will be in place to handle spring ball for the Wildcats.

I still can't believe it hasnt been posted. Unless, they are hiring from within, which would make since. Otherwise, like ol #70 said, the team will suffer if they dont have spring ball and allow transition time for the new coach.

Would wager they are waiting on allocations before they make a hire...only logical explanation.

Henry has been good for a couple years. ITs a good location too. Should be some interest in that position.

Probably is some interest in the position, but it will fade as they drag out the process. I know their athletic director is also the girls b-ball coach but they do have an associate a.d. who could be taking care of the football business for now. I hear there are some people in the community who are not happy with the way things are proceeding, which is not at all.

Why rush? Just because "the community" doesn't see things happening doesn't mean that it isn't. If the assistants want to be the head coach, I would assume that they are running the weight program to the best of their ability already. 2-11-10 would be a month since the former coach resigned and that would leave plenty of time before spring practice starts.

 

I've served on head coach search committees and if it is done right, it takes a lot of time. I'd say that a higher profile job such as Henry Co would attract some quality candidates IN ADDITION to the quality assistants that might want the job. Additionally, if I were one of those assistants wanting that job, I'd for durn sure want to know that I was picked because I was the best candidate for the position, not just homered in.

Dragging their feet will only hurt the program. What kind of applicants do they think will be patient enough to wait that long? NOt many. Too many good assistants on that staff to pass up. Some just want someone to continue the winning tradition and continue the culture.

I don't know anybody that's terribly worried about the decision being made. The staff has made two good hires on the last two coaches and although I have my favorites the man that is hired will have my support as well as the support of the community.
